I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is allow them to realise their own potential and skills, and instil them with the confidence to take on their assessments and exams without self doubt. As a tutor, I believe my strengths are my ability to infer the most suitable ways of explanation and communication for each…

Among the most important things a tutor can do for a student is that a tutor must be able to understand a student's learning style so that the student would be able to learn the material in a way that is analogous to their mode of synthesising knowledge. A tutor must do this all the while being open and kind and most especially warm towards the…

As a tutor, I believe it to be of utmost importance that the student does not feel helpless or lost in a certain school subject, as it is our duty to aid them as much as we can. By teaching and explaining ideas to our students with patience, it is with no doubt that our students will be able to grasp and fathom said ideas in no time. Most…

It is crucial for teachers to be patient with students who are learning fresh topics as it takes time to process new information. Students can become distracted or find the subject/topic with no interest, this gives an important responsibility for a tutor to be engaging and encouraging for students to strive for learning. I also believe if the…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide personalized help, boost their confidence, and make learning enjoyable. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to let the students enjoy and appreciate the lesson. Only then, they will be able to understand and excel in the subjects. I am really good at identifying the difficulty that a student face and guide him or her on how he can overcome the situation. Many a times, students are not meeting his…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student go beyond just teaching content. A tutor should help a child feel capable--- when students believe in themselves, everything else becomes easier. It's important to break concepts down simply, meet students where they are, and help them move forward step by step without overwhelm.…

I think the key thing a tutor can do for a student is ensure that their individual learning habits are in order, creating an essential degree of independence. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not just teach them their lessons - but also teach them better study habits. This will ensure that the students may learn to study on their own without the help of a tutor all the time, and that they may be able to grow as an individual prepared for bigger challenges (such as uni,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is provide a learning environment free from both the rigid structure and inherent judgement present in centres of mass education. A calmer, more personal environment allows the establishment of time tables and study plans more conducive to the individual student. There is also…

Creating a supportive and comfortable environment is perhaps the most crucial thing a tutor can do for a student. Inside Moore ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Amaya practised vertical addition and subtraction, focusing on borrowing strategies for multi-digit sums.

In Year 10, Ethan worked through Chapter 8 Algebra problems, developing skills in expanding and simplifying expressions as well as solving linear equations.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Rhea refined her thesis writing for the English Common Module by analysing how "Billy Elliot" explores themes of commitment and gender stereotypes, while also practising essay structure using exemplar responses from recent HSC exams.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 mathematics, a reluctance to show full working—especially when expanding logs or graphing parabolas—meant mistakes went unnoticed and re-occurred. One tutor noted, "She was quite distracted and reluctant to do work," during a session on completing the square; this left gaps in understanding that slowed progress with later exam questions.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student's written layout became hard to follow when subtracting large numbers using borrowing, causing confusion over place value and leading to repeated errors.

In English (Year 10), overwhelming feedback on linking statements led to early lesson finishes as the student needed time to process new information.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Moore Park recently noticed that a Year 12 student, Gemma, who once hesitated with completing the square and applying log laws, now comfortably solves complex quadratic equations and expands logarithmic expressions without prompting.

Meanwhile, Sefi in Year 10 has shifted from needing step-by-step help on surds to confidently simplifying and rationalising them independently.

In primary sessions, Amaya—who previously relied on counting with her fingers—has begun inventing her own mental addition patterns and requested extra homework for practice. Last week, she drew analogue clock times entirely on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Surry Hills Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sydney Girls High School.
