I believe that getting high grades in school is not the most important goal for my student (although this is something we work towards), but rather what is most important for me as a tutor is to see them learn, progress and improve each time. I want to teach them the value of hard work while building up their confidence and motivation to tackle…

Something that sets me apart from many other tutors is that I’m very relatable, something which I think is very important to a student. Personally, I’ve known in the past what it’s like to sometimes struggle academically, however, experience has shown me that part of it what it takes to succeed is a great work ethic and an awesome mentor.…

Instill confidence in the student about their own ability to learn and achieve their academic goals. The tutor should tailor their approach to the needs of each student. - Not everyone learns the same way and the tutor should be prepared to be creative in the ways he or she teaches core concepts or content. Offer something unique! - Rather…

A good tutor should firstly ensure that the student has a solid grasp of the foundational knowledge underpinning their subject, before moving on to teach more complex concepts. This is because oftentimes a subject's more advanced concepts will draw heavily from assumed foundational knowledge. Additionally a tutor can instill confidence in a…

Engage, Communicate, Feedback. I think these three are the pillars of a student's willingness to learn. Apart from that, it is the tutor's responsibility to ensure the students learn. Every student is different and needs a different approach sometimes. We've known this since the big bang probably. But we keep ignoring something even more…

The tutor should just not stick to the knowledge that is available in the textbooks but should make learning a fun experience for the students by giving relevant examples . Learning becomes more easier when the students are involved in the process. The session must be interactive. I am a active listener and communicator. I feel that every student…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to encourage them to continue with their studies and motivate and help the student achieve to the best of their abilities. Inspire. Not every child enjoys learning the way we need to in society so a teachers and tutors, we need to be able to be creative enough for those individual students who need more guidance. For example I have had a year 3 student who hated english and nearly every subject at school, however he really enjoyed robots. As we were learning…

Make them realise that they have the ability to acheive, and helping them unlock that in themselves. My understanding of a tutors role is not to do the students work, yet to uncover their natural ability so that they may proceed to increase their academic results. Therefore, the most important thing a tutor can do is not only provide advice but draw out the best of people. I have been told I am a 'people person', I previously worked in a busy…

The most important way in which I can aid my students is by providing them with the capability to master new content on their own. Inside NailsworthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Sophie practised division and focused on mastering the 8 times tables, with some attention given to properties of triangles.

Year 7 student Daniel explored index laws by working through multiplication and division of exponents, then moved on to understanding scientific notation in context.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Alex tackled trigonometry problems involving bearings and also worked through probability questions using tree diagrams for visual support.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student repeatedly arrived without having completed assigned homework, including multiplication revision and a maths assignment—one tutor noted, "she could not provide a valid excuse." This led to uncertainty in applying exponent logic and negative indices on tests.

In Year 5, one student avoided practising times tables outside sessions; when tested, she defaulted to finger-counting and hesitated after each step, asking if answers were correct.

A senior secondary student relied heavily on her graphic calculator for linear equations but struggled when asked to interpret or lay out solutions by hand, which masked errors until review time.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Nailsworth recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to struggle with abstract algebra now choosing more challenging textbook questions on her own and asking for clarification only after attempting them first.

Another high schooler, previously hesitant about calculus, started recognising where to use logarithm laws to solve derivative problems without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger student who once relied heavily on times tables charts decided to tackle multiplication exercises independently this week, getting most answers right and showing real eagerness to try before checking her work.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Prospect Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sports College South Australia - North Adelaide Football Club.
