Illustrating the solution, explaining with the right examples, respecting everyone's views and value every question however simple it maybe. Making the discourse interesting and interactive. These are the most important things a tutor must deliver while teaching students. Simplifying complex topics with day to day examples is what I do. I will not…

I think one extremely important thing a tutor can do is to adapt their teaching to the individual needs and abilities of each student, and adapt themselves to the student, not force the student to adapt to them. This involves listening to the student and observing how they work and then responding to those things. Another extremely important thing…

If I can make a student begin thinking more about the subject than just a grade to obtain, I would have felt that I made one more curious person. Curiosity is the root of knowledge in my opinion, and it would be the seed that I can share with the students that I engage with. I believe, they would lie in science, especially with regard to my…

A tutor should be able to build confidence for a student in a subject that is not their strongest. By building this confidence, students can go into exams with a clear understanding of the subject. Tutors have two roles, One is to actively support the student who might be struggling to cope up with their peers and/or looking to improve their performance. The second is to make the student learn in a different environment from their school. Schools have multiple children and every child has some issue they are facing. As a tutor sitting 1-1…

This may involve identifying areas of weakness, adapting lesson plans, and providing additional resources to help the student succeed. 2. Build confidence: A tutor should help boost a student's…

I think a good tutor is beyond just a subject matter expert and can be conducive to the development of the student as a whole. I feel the concept of tutoring is very personal and that a tutor should make a student feel comfortable enough to encourage him/her to view the tutor as a confidante. Furthermore, there's the added advantage of being able…

Creating a wanting to learn. No child will improve grades if they do not want to learn and that comes from my own personal experience. I think the best thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach him different things while motivating the student and making sure he/she/they understand the essence of the teaching so that they can apply it in daily life rather than asking them to memorize different things. This way the students not only get good grades but also store whatever…

Inside NollamaraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Lily worked on graphing linear relationships and substituting values into functions to understand how equations change, using examples to visualise results.

Another Year 9 student focused on properties of parallel lines and triangles, including calculating midpoint, length, gradient, and solving for unknown angles with step-by-step reasoning.

For a senior high school student, recent sessions covered complex numbers—identifying real and imaginary parts in standard form—and optimisation problems by expressing variables in terms of one another and differentiating to find maximum or minimum values.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 Chemistry student, after making progress with titration calculations, still left much of the required working out incomplete on her worksheet—"only wrote about half of the notes of what was required," noted one tutor.

In Year 10 Mathematics, another student repeatedly skipped showing algebra steps, especially in problems involving decimals; this often masked sign errors and made it difficult to track mistakes.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student lost motivation after setbacks with long division—struggling to continue after finding remainders, leading to frustration and reluctance to attempt similar questions later in the lesson.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Nollamara noticed a Year 11 student who began the term confused about when to use sine, cosine, or tangent now confidently tackles trigonometry problems and recently clarified bearing directions independently.

In another session, a Year 12 student initially struggled with equilibrium equations in Chemistry but persisted through targeted practice—by lesson's end, he was solving redox reactions without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger student who once avoided pen and paper now eagerly writes out each step for multi-digit division and even shouted "YES I LOVE DIVISION WITH REMAINDERS!" after solving several on her own.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

In regards to Manisha and the help she provided lsabella last year, my husband and I were very happy with the improvement in Isabella's maths results.  Manisha was able to explain things in a way that she could understand in a non judgemental way, gave her some great examples to work with and was available for questions any time.  Isabella's confidence in her maths improved as a result of all of Manisha's efforts. Before we came to you, Isabella disliked maths intensely and had no confidence in the subject.  The more comfortable she became, she was able to assist her classmates who were struggling. I would be more than happy to recommend Ezymath if the opportunity arises.

Devina is fantastic, I am so happy with Josh's progress to the point where he got the Maths award last week for his efforts!!!

Sean has a true talent for tutoring. James has bonded so well with him already, he looks forward to his sessions and already the class teacher has advised that he is understanding concepts better and may move him up a level in maths! I'm very happy with his progress. We are glad that Sean has picked up on James' difficulties and appreciate his genuine care for James' progress.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Osborne Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like West Coast Steiner School.
