One of the most important roles of a tutor is to have the ability to cater their support to individual learning styles, and to further strengthen the knowledge they gain from their school teachers. A tutor should be able to foster the students' personal problem solving and critical thinking skills, and equip them with strategies to approach…

In my opinion, the most important thing is to understand the critical role a tutor plays in the development of the student. Maintaining dignity for the student while they learn is important in developing intellect as well as confidence in their ability to complete tasks to the best of their ability, or even the courage to have a try regardless of…

A tutor must always be there for their students, support them through their struggles on a particular topic/subject. But as well as adapting to different styles of delivering content to the student, as each student excels through different methods of teaching. As a tutor I believe it is not the amount of knowledge of tutor knows but the…

A tutor should be the mentor for students and guide them the way rather than just spoon-feeding them with the content. Also, a tutor should always remain unbiased towards the students. The most important part of learning is moving a shallow understanding into a deep rooted analytical ability. Pure memory techniques aren't enough to sustain prolonged learning and problem solving abilities. To build up this core ability and apply it is crucial. For a tutor to be an eloquent individual immersed with a wealth of knowledge it useless, if they do not frequently follow up with their students. It needs "regular maintenance" in car analogy. Tutoring is a marathon not a sprint. Tutors must hope to retain the students’ knowledge rather than sophisticatedly teach content without regular revision…

The most obvious benefit a tutor can provide a kid is academic support, which is also the main reason parents send their children for tutoring. Moreover, tutoring is a process based on interpersonal interactions, human connection, and getting to know students as individuals and learners. Inside OfficerTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Mia worked on finding the area and perimeter of square and triangle shapes as well as practicing persuasive writing.

In Year 8, Ethan focused on algebraic fractions and revising index laws to strengthen his understanding of algebra topics.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Olivia completed a chemistry assessment involving chemical reactions and practiced mathematics probability questions using real-world examples.

Recent Challenges

During a recent Year 10 English session, the student's writing showed frequent grammar and spelling errors, yet he rarely proofread—even when mistakes were highlighted by Microsoft Word.

"He seems comfortable just passing and not striving to achieve his best," a tutor noted after reviewing an assignment.

In Year 9 Mathematics, answers were often unchecked, with simple calculation slips (like 12 × 6) overlooked due to skipping review steps.

In both Years 7 and VCE-level sessions, uncharged iPads repeatedly delayed lessons by up to fifteen minutes while he searched for a working device. This left less time for targeted learning.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Officer noticed one Year 11 student now independently double-checks his maths work, catching errors on his own—previously he'd submit answers without reviewing.

Another high schooler who used to hesitate with assignments has started structuring essays solo and comes up with her own arguments, showing real initiative compared to earlier sessions where she waited for prompts.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner who once guessed at tricky words is now sounding them out carefully and reads whole pages aloud without needing picture cues. Last week, she finished reading a chapter unaided for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cardinia Mobile Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Officer Primary School.
