First and foremost helping the student to develop logic, as logic is everywhere, and making them understand each problem before solving it. The most important way would be to change the way of learning. Finally, the main part would be to increase their grades, so that they can enroll in world-reputed universities and colleges in the near future…

In my opinion, a tutor is not just for supporting a student to complete his assessments and helping them to solve questions. A tutor has an even more close connection with a student than his school teacher. Hence he has a better chance to identify what is the level of a particular student and what support he or she actually needs. Other…

I think the most significant thing that a tutor can do is to instill confidence in the student, make them able to learn, and independent learners. It's not providing them with the answers but making them see the 'why' about things. A good tutor listens, is attuned to the way of learning of the student, and gets them at ease asking questions and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to stay patient with him or her when they are not able get hold of a concept. That is what differentiates a great teacher from a good teacher. From my previous experience teaching a lot of students. The most vital point the student wants from their mentor is compassion and sympathy to connect with them. Apart from many things, confidence to then be able to take back into the classroom, and real world. The most crucial thing in tutoring must be that the teacher should be impartial, when it comes to tutoring a group of students. The tutor must be able to understand each student's level and must be able to teach with patience. The tutor must make learning fun with practical examples and concept-wise learning methods. Moreover, teacher must be able…

A tutor should focus on empowering the student, rather than simply teaching the content to them, so that when the tutor is not present, the student is still able to motivate themselves and have confidence in their ability without having someone to rely on. Local Reviews

While it seemed to take a little while to pair with a tutor, the match was perfect. I couldn't be happier with the service. Definitely worth the conversation if you have a child with a specific need. We are already seeing improvements after only a few sessions.
Imelda Patton, Pascoe Vale

Inside Pascoe Vale SouthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Tania reviewed the rules for indices and surds, practiced operations with both, and worked through questions involving addition, subtraction, and rationalising denominators.

Year 10 student Lucas focused on quadratic equations by factorising both monic and non-monic trinomials as well as solving quadratics using the quadratic formula.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sarah tackled trigonometry applications including bearings and word problems requiring angles of elevation and depression.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7, one student's handwriting and arrangement of working out led to confusion during calculation—in factorisation tasks, this meant both the tutor and student lost time trying to decipher steps.

A Year 8 learner arrived unprepared, having forgotten textbooks and lacking familiarity with digital tools, which limited engagement in the session.

For a Year 10 algebra class, "just reading notes and doing practice questions" without tackling unfamiliar problems slowed progress on the unit circle topic.

In VCE Chemistry, skipping careful checks after calculations led to unnoticed errors; as a tutor observed: "methodical calculations were needed but not always followed through."

Recent Achievements

One Pascoe Vale South tutor noticed a big change in a Year 10 student who had struggled with factorisation; this time, he was able to construct several examples independently and tackle key homework steps that were previously out of reach.

In a senior session, a Year 12 student began deriving equations correctly for the first time—something she'd hesitated over before—and even worked through problems involving limits and derivatives with much less prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger student who used to quietly muddle through reading now reads fluently and enunciates well, only occasionally needing encouragement to project his voice.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbell-Turnbull Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Antonine College.
