The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be flexible to the students individual needs. I believe that in order for a student to gain insightful knowledge and improve in their studies, the tutor must be able to adapt tasks and their own attitude towards what works best for the student. My strengths involve being disciplined but…

Be friendly to the student, show the student that they are confident in them, allow the student to think for him/herself. A tutor should make the student understand the importance of anything they teach the student ,and make sure the student has grasped the concept in the most simplest way to the student. A tutor should understand that each…

Teach them important skills that will help them learn independently. Often when I was student, after my sessions with my tutor I would find myself stuck on a question and unable to move forward until our next session. That's why I believe teaching students techniques on how to approach questions is very important. Being able to explain…

I think as much as it has to do with academics, it has a lot to do with mental health and the overall well-being of the student, too. They don't necessarily have to tell a tutor anything; they just need to know that this is someone they could potentially confide in. This also helps boost academic progress. And for a more technical aspect of…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be understanding and compassionate. At times it can be a bit difficult to tutor a student who is lacking in understanding, but it is always important for a tutor to be compassionate towards a student who is struggling and should always stay calm and work through the content step by step.…

I believe this is the same as what I enjoyed. The most important thing in being a tutor is making a fun learning environment for the student so they can enjoy learning and learn much more efficiently. 1. Build a strong personal relationship with the student to create the optimal learning environment where the student is comfortable to communicate as he wants with the tutor 2. A tutor can provide a rubric(concepts/ideas simplified into bullet points) and summarized notes so students can combat any questions asked 3. Set out goals for the…

The most important thing a tutor can offer is support and patience. One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to motivate them. The process of learning can never be linear. And others may struggle with the concepts even after going through the…

As a tutor, I believe it is important to improve their weaknesses so that they are a more well-rounded student. For the majority of students I have met, a large proportion approach their studies disinterested. Thus, the tutor’s most crucial responsibility is not only to effectively convey the subject matter, it is to do it in a way which sparks engagement. This extends further for theoretical subjects such as chemistry, where the tutor assumes a greater…

A tutor must be willing to work with and adapt for each student. It is critical to not treat tutoring as one-size-fits-all - indeed many students may be getting a tutor because standard learning methods aren't working for them. It is also essential that tutors create a safe learning space where students are free to ask questions and give opinions.…

All the students have unique learning methods so as a tutor it is essential that we take that into consideration and orient the classes in a way that is comprehensible and engaging for that child. A great and fast easy way for tutoring. I wish I had of known about them earlier, not two weeks before my sons exams although the tutor made a remarkable difference to my sons results in just a short time. Highly recommended and a professional easy service. Daniel was my contact at Ezi Maths. ?

Inside Patterson LakesTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Luella practiced multiplying two- and three-digit numbers, worked with lowest common multiples, and explored decimals using number lines to compare values.

In Year 8, Hunter focused on constructing detailed narrative paragraphs, expanded his use of adjectives for character descriptions, and improved sentence flow through linking ideas.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Max revised linear equations by finding x- and y-intercepts from graphs and completed targeted multi-choice and short-answer questions to prepare for an upcoming maths test.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student showed heavy reliance on a calculator during assessment tasks, particularly when finding surface areas and solving for unknowns, which "led to missing some formula steps" as the tutor noted.

In Year 8, one student's messy working in area and algebra made it hard to track errors, slowing progress on more advanced problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner repeatedly failed to edit their writing even after seeing corrections on the same page—spelling mistakes crept back into subsequent sentences.

During narrative planning in Year 6 English, a lack of confidence meant ideas were abandoned if not confirmed by an adult.

Recent Achievements

One Patterson Lakes tutor noticed that a high school student, Daniel, was initially unsure with quadratic equations but can now confidently expand and factorise quadratics, even applying the quadratic formula without assistance.

Another secondary student, Max, used to struggle breaking down composite shapes in geometry; he's since begun solving complex area problems independently by dividing them into simpler parts.

For a younger student, Hunter has become much more proactive—he now regularly asks for help with spelling rather than guessing silently and applies feedback on capitalisation as he writes. Last session, he planned and wrote an entire story following his outline.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Patterson Lakes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Patterson Lakes Primary School.
