Inspire them. One of the biggest roadblocks for many students is a general reluctance to do it due to negative stigma from either their parents, peers or even themselves. Sometimes when students don't quite grasp a concept, they will think "well I just don't get it", and then further down the line every time that concept is built upon, they will…

The most important part about a tutor is making sure the student understands what they are teaching them. Since every student's way of learning is different, the tutor must be able to adapt to fit those needs. This is why a classroom is a bad environment since not all students reach their full capabilities. But this is why tutoring is perfect…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be understanding; not all students learn the same and also conventional learning doesn't work for most students which makes them feel discouraged. Making a student know that there are other ways to learn and find a way around a situation would be the most important thing a tutor can…

I think there is more than just schooling that is important in a tutor/student relationship. Each student is unique and has their own way of visualising and understanding. For me to become a successful tutor I always do my best to understand the student. This correlates to personal life too and making sure their well-being is sound. From the…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to equip a student with critical thinking skills relating to HOW to approach a problem. If a student can frame a problem, or recognize which tools are appropriate, then the rest becomes much more manageable. - I have a good knowledge of subjects, and their applications. - I can often recommend…

I believe tutoring helps students develop a genuine love for learning. There are 2 characteristics a tutor needs to achieve this. Firstly, the tutor should have an open and friendly personality. Learning is inherently effortful, and having someone friendly to guide the process makes it more enjoyable and productive. Additionally, tutors need to…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to offer them quality information and direct feedback on their work and areas of struggle. Inside Regents ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Sarah focused on applications of the second derivative, particularly in motion problems involving displacement, velocity, and acceleration, and also solved questions requiring interpretation of results.

Year 11 student Daniel worked through logarithms and trigonometric modelling, tackling both equation-solving and worded application questions.

Meanwhile, Year 3 student Mia revised addition, subtraction, multiplication tables (2s, 3s, 5s), and identified fractions and shapes using a mix of basic practice and real-life worded problems for context.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student working on exam revision often hesitated to attempt unfamiliar modelling questions, asking for reassurance despite having correct reasoning; as noted, she still struggles with worded questions, specifically with modelling questions that ask to sketch or find the equation to a function.

In Year 10, calculator skills repeatedly created obstacles—one student struggled to access the right program during TA questions and needed step-by-step guides for basic functions.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student tackling three-digit subtraction rarely wrote out her process, relying on mental calculations instead of showing working, which led to frequent borrowing errors and slower progress through homework.

Recent Achievements

One Regents Park tutor recently noticed a Year 12 student who, after struggling with calculator skills and complex probability questions, now navigates the right menus independently, picking up small errors early on—this shift to self-correction marks a big change from previous lessons.

In another high school session, a Year 11 student has started explaining her reasoning out loud when tackling tough trigonometry problems; this habit means she's more willing to ask why certain formulas are used instead of just guessing.

Meanwhile, in primary years, one student switched from using fingers for every addition problem to relying on mental strategies, confidently explaining answers even if she's unsure.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Logan West Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Indie School, Logan - Browns Plains Campus.
