The most important thing a tutor can do would be to maintain a strict regimen on what is expected in a student. Students that are set in the easy and slow pace that their classroom teachers assert themselves will fall behind easily. It is vital that a tutor recognise and go the extra mile to attain new resources and schedules for their student to…

In my opinion, the relationship beyond subject tutoring is the most important aspect of a tutor. A great tutor must have the ability to connect deeply with the students to give them personalised teaching methods and materials, which ultimately increase both efficiency and effectiveness in teaching. In order of doing so, a tutor must have a great…

The goal of tutoring, in some sense, should be to equip students with the skills to no longer need tutoring. I believe this is best achieved by allowing the student to choose study-related goals, and help them take achievable steps in order to get there. As their competence increases in proximity to the larger goal, so too does their confidence as…

Being a friend and a guide more than an authoritative figure. Working through the problem together so the student doesn't feel that they are the underdog in the situation. My strength would be identifying the student's own weaknesses and strengths and tailoring my tutoring style accordingly. A weakness might be sticking to my lesson plan a little…

To be patient, understanding and always willing to go back to the basics and refresh their memory and to get the work to fit together. But mostly the tutor must be someone who the student is comfortable with and able to ask any questions or queries however small or silly they may think they might be. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to inspire them to aim higher than where they currently are and to act as a guide towards that goal. It is also important for us to be there for them when they need us but not spoonfeeding them so that they can learn for themselves. I am disciplined and would instil the same sense of…

I think that the tutor acts as a mentor for the student. In this role, the tutor should encourage the students to think critically in order to find answers to their questions. By providing the means to discover the answers for themselves, the tutor ensures that the student does not merely address the 'what' of the question but is also able to…

For any student, progress will naturally vary and giving them that support and encouragement to persevere and overcome hurdles in their learning is,…

Allowing students to become independent thinkers and restorning their self confidence is one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student. This means while you guide them in filling gaps in knowledge and breaking down difficult concepts, the tutor is able to build these fundamental skills in the student. In instilling these skills, I…

I think that if the student and the tutor communicate well and both parties understand each other, then it will help the student tremendously. Provide adequate resources on the subject so the student can go back over them when not being tutored. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is allowing that student to gain an appreciation for the subject area they are studying. I reckon the most important thing is to understand a student’s weakness, where they mess up or the concepts they are uncomfortable with. Through such understanding, the tutor can make personalised practice/tutoring that can help the student reach their goals. I am really patient and able to explain concepts to students in a way they can…

Local Reviews

We had an issue with a tutor that was resolved with swift and amazing customer service. Very happy with new tutor.
ESTU, Ringwood North

Inside Ringwood NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Anaka worked on simultaneous equations and completed a diagnostic set of Year 9 and 10 maths questions to identify strengths.

In Year 11, Kenton reviewed the theory of depreciation missed in class and applied it through targeted practice problems.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Mohammad was tested on last year's Math, Physics, and Chemistry content before addressing specific gaps in each subject with focused revision.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Physics, he over-complicated some exam answers, slowing him down and often providing an incorrect answer. This tendency to expand on theory instead of targeting what the question asked led to lost marks, especially when curriculum changes altered expected response formats.

In Year 11 Chemistry, lack of confidence meant Sakura could not recall material during tests—despite knowing it beforehand.

Meanwhile, in Year 5 writing tasks, Melodie struggled to expand on her initial ideas after planning; as a tutor observed, "she needs to really focus on not just planning but then expanding on those ideas." This left her final pieces brief and underdeveloped.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ringwood North noticed that a Year 10 student, previously hesitant to ask questions in class, now actively seeks clarification on complex math problems and applies new study strategies like the Pomodoro method to stay organised.

In a recent high school session, another student who used to make frequent calculation errors during quantitative reasoning tasks managed to complete a full test significantly faster and with far fewer mistakes than before—demonstrating much better retention and exam technique.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner showed real independence by self-correcting her own spelling errors and expanding her writing without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Realm Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holy Spirit School.
