Every tutor works hard to make a student understand the value of education. One-on-one tutoring is a great way to inspire a student to do their best and reach their full potential. A tutor gets to know a student more than a teacher in a classroom setting. We personalise our teaching based on every student and boost their confidence if they are…

I believe the most important things are to build confidence and foster independence. A tutor's job isn't just to help a student get a better grade on the next test; it's to give them the skills and self-belief to tackle future challenges on their own. This means creating a safe, supportive space where the student feels comfortable asking "silly"…

Providing students with a learning environment which encourages their participation through asking questions and allow them to show their own way of approaching a question. A tutor needs to not only ensure that students get good grades, for me personally, it is equally important to boost each student's problem solving skills and creativity.…

As a tutor, I believe it is my duty to make sure that students love to learn in general and not just for grades! It is very important to build their learning skills with creativity more than just learning the facts. I can communicate well with students and see eye to eye on difficult topic. I’m patient with slow learner’s and an excellent…

I think the most important aspect as a tutor is to listen to the student and foster independence. They should be able to ask as many questions as possible and make them think and learn about problem solving. I think there are a lot of qualities that go into being a good tutor. A few of the most important skills for the field are patience and…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide clarity, build confidence, and foster a love for learning. First, a tutor should simplify complex concepts and explain them in ways that make sense to the student. It’s about making the subject less intimidating and more approachable. Second, building the…

I think the most important thing, is that you not only teach students. You learn to grow with them, you make sure that your students are able to be successful, and you are a small contributor to that success, but along the way, you grow with them, you understand the way they learn, so that you could learn with them. I think that my strengths, are…

A tutor should be patient, allowing students to build confidence in answering things alone and creating a basis for independent learning. They should also create a kind, open environment that adapts to all students needs. I am someone who struggled in certain aspects of school life so I had to adapt the information given to me in order to absorb…

First and foremost, make sure the student properly understands all the content. From there, a tutor should provide refinement, using their experience to show their students how to tackle exams and tests. I ardently want to see my students succeed, and will put in the effort to achieve this. Completing the most recent version of the study design…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is give them the confidence they need to sit an exam and believe that they have the skills required to answer the questions in front of them. I have had a number of students come to me with issues relating to this, along the lines of 'I just had no idea what to do.' I aim to equip my students…

It is vital, especially in year 12, for a tutor to unlock a student's full potential in a certain subject, in order to ensure that they perform confidently in their exams, fully knowing that they are doing the best that they can, and have utilized all the available resources. In addition to increasing the student's confidence in his/her academic prowess through his/her understanding of a difficult concept, a tutor may also help incite the innate curiosity of a life-long learner. Support. The education system can be tough, and confidence is fluid along with grades, and it is up to the tutor to remind a student of how far they have come and how capable the student is. The largest impact on results is often not the time spent studying, but the foundational pillar that is psychology as this impacts every part of education.…

Give them tools to increase their confidence! A tutor is there as a support system; they're there to provide the one-on-one attention a classroom teacher is unable to provide, and to clarify, reinforce, and adapt classroom teaching so that students get the most out of their learning. The most important thing for a tutor is to understand the needs of the student and then perform. Don't put unnecessary pressure on the students. The words of assurance are the only thing that the students require and then they will perform their best. My…

Local Reviews

Easy to organise and great tutor!
Julie, Sandringham

Inside SandringhamTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Ben practised solving integer equations and converting fractions to decimals, using worked examples for clarity.

Year 10, Maya reviewed the application of differentiation principles to kinematics, focusing on velocity versus speed and using the chain rule.

For Year 11, Tom worked through linear equations with CAS technology and started reviewing simple and compound interest calculations in preparation for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

Across several year levels, incomplete homework and organization have limited progress: one Year 8 student "didn't remember much in terms of LCM and HCF from last week," with homework left unfinished.

In Years 9–10, written work was sometimes messy or unclear—setting out in algebra and fraction tasks was flagged as needing improvement.

A Year 11 student used the CAS calculator for even simple sums rather than practicing manual computation, making it harder to spot errors or build confidence.

During a recent test, a senior student's stress led to forgotten methods and difficulty recalling processes under pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Sandringham noticed a big shift with one Year 10 student who, after struggling to write out her working, now uses a step-by-step "talk aloud" strategy and completes practice tests much more neatly.

In Year 12 maths, another student recently scored 81% on a tech-free SAC and is getting better at checking the wording of each question to avoid losing marks for careless mistakes—something that had tripped him up before.

Meanwhile, a primary student who found analogue time confusing can now confidently read times past the hour without needing reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sandringham Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Firbank Grammar School - Sandringham Campus.
