Knowing a student and modelling his learning plan accordingly addressing his concerns. Give positive messages. Students require somebody to encourage them in a genuine manner, to make them understand that it’s ok to fail sometimes but worth trying. Coordinated effort amongst parents and tutors is completely vital to a student’s prosperity.…

The most important thing for a tutor to provide to a student is confidence. Without implementing confidence into the student for the subject they are struggling with, success in the subject will be harder. This means I will ensure students understand the concepts of the subject by teaching them the basics to build their confidence. My strengths…

As tutoring gives a more face to face approach, a tutor can do more than a teacher on some occasions for a student as they give more individual focus on each student's weakness and strengths. The most important thing I can do for a student is giving them the time, knowledge and hands-on approach others who cannot do that for them. Tutoring can…

In my opinion the most important things a tutor can offer a student is confidence and guidance. This is because as a tutor, building a student's confidence can directly impact their attitude towards learning and how well they can achieve the marks they are aiming for. Similarly, by giving guidance to a student, not only prompts them into learning…

Tutoring can be challenging, especially when it comes to motivating your learner. You see the potential they have, and they often hear about the potential they have, but they do not feel as though they got what it takes. Living in such a busy and demanding time can often make us feel the time constraints on everything we do and we expect our…

The most important thing a tutor can do for the student is to believe in them and show encouragement. The tutoring sessions with Dominic are going very well. He has certainly helped Kailiana to gain confidence and skills in maths, while keeping a calm, friendly, and easy-going mood for the tutoring sessions. As any 8 year old does, Kailiana can get distracted from time to time, but Dominic has always taken this in stride, and been very creative in engaging with Kailiana in order to retain her attention. For example, there was one instance where she jumped up out of nowhere and decided to feed her goldfish in the middle of them trying to solve some questions about volume. Once she got back to the table Dominic asked her about her fish, and then changed the objects in the question they were solving to fish. He effectively got her back on track and engaged her attention in a warm and gentle way. Kailiana looks forward to her tutoring sessions, with is another testament to the good work Dominic has been doing with her.

Inside SeftonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alessandro worked on mastering division skills and identifying divisibility by numbers like 2, 3, and 6, using quick tricks for recognition.

For Year 8, Mia focused on algebraic techniques such as expanding and factorising expressions, along with revising the use of indices.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Olivia tackled co-ordinate geometry—finding gradients—and explored congruency in triangles through practical problem sets.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Maths, shortcuts in working were common—"he often resorts to doing a lot mentally, and then gets lost in his working"—making it difficult to trace mistakes, especially with algebra and negative numbers.

Homework was frequently incomplete or rushed; when attempted last-minute, this left him "freaking out that he doesn't remember what to do right before the lesson."

For a Year 4 student tackling multi-digit multiplication, confusion arose from misplacing numbers in columns, as one tutor noted he "struggles with the placement of numbers in the equation for 2 by 2 digit multiplication," which led to repeated errors despite knowing the steps.

Recent Achievements

One Sefton tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 9 student who's begun catching his own mistakes during algebra and now fixes them independently—previously, he'd wait for hints before correcting errors.

In a recent high school session, another student surprised himself by recalling and confidently applying all four tests to prove triangle congruency, something he found confusing just weeks ago.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, a Year 4 student who used to hesitate when faced with multiplication challenges has memorised both the 5 and 10 times tables and now spots number patterns on his own without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

As far as I know, the tutoring is going well. They actually meet at Sydney University library as it is a handy meeting point for both of them and a good place for them to work. I believe that they have a good understanding between them but I will talk to Georgina again today after her lesson.

Andrew is a great tutor, always on time & he is a very polite young man. He is very good at explaining & teaching Georgia short cuts. They get on well which helps & she is happy learning maths.

We approached EzyMath Tutoring as our son missed out on quiet a lot of maths in year 4 due to illness. We were given James as our tutor and he did a great job in catching Daniel up on all he missed. We would recommend EzyMath tutoring for anyone wishing to assist their children in maths.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Chester Hill Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Primary School.
