The most important thing for a tutor is to understand the weaknesses of a student, identify his/her areas of discomfort and find a suitable way for the student to digest. Being able to be a good friend of the student is also a rare quality every tutor should possess. I have 5+ years of experience tutoring students from various background. My good…

The most important things a tutor can do are to foster a supportive environment, encourage curiosity, and empower students to reach their full potential. A tutor should guide students to find solutions rather than providing them directly, enabling them to build independence and critical-thinking skills. By helping students develop efficient study…

For them to really understand the concept you are teaching and not still feel confused after the lesson . Gaining enlightenment I am a fellow student myself too and I have gone through high school and university . I would be able to convey what I am trying to teach to students more easily since I was once in their perspective…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for the students is to motivate and encourage them to do their best. I believe that results are mostly achieved through the effort of the students themselves, so as a tutor I try my best to cover all the concepts and to provide my students with support materials, but I also make sure that my students…

A tutor can always support or help his/ her students, could take student's weakness in a positive way. A tutor can analyse the student's capabilities in a detailed manner which is very helpful to figure out the areas that need more focus and attention. One of my attribute is that i am good at getting to know the student, once i am familiar with…

Being able to teach a student enough material for them to be able to pass the class, that is what you are being paid to do. There are also many ineffible qualities that will set apart a good tutor from a great one. Such qualities include, understanding the student, being supportive of them and their emotions and ensuring the student is effectively…

A tutor can improve one's overall understand of the subject, not just a specific understanding about a material. That is important because it is building the bigger picture of each subject in the long term. I am flexible in my teaching method, and I am able to adjust to each student depending on what they…

The number one most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make sure that the student builds a strong understanding of the content. There is a difference between knowing how to work out a problem, and why a problem is solved the way it is. I think that when you understand the why instead of just how it becomes very simple to complete…

I believe there are several things a tutor can deliver to her students, the primary of which is to instill a sense of confidence and can-do attitude among them. This means my role will not only limit to a tutor but also a mentor, guiding my students on multiple aspects of their academic path. As a seasoned tutor and teacher of English, I'd say my…

Our modern world is built around education and every student can expect to experience a lot of it in the future. Therefore, it is most important that a tutor should model genuine interest in learning (both the subject matter and how to learn well), so that the student him/herself enjoys the process and is encouraged to become a lifelong learner.…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is reassure them that it is perfectly normal to not understand a topic straight away. When I am in a tutoring role…

A tutor can tailor instruction to meet the specific needs, learning style, and pace of the student. Moreover, students can help students understand complex concepts by providing clear explanations, examples, and demonstrations. I believe that tutors must have a good attitude and genuinely enjoy the concepts and the subject. Inside Somerton ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student James worked through NAPLAN Numeracy practice questions, focusing on relationships between fractions, decimals, and percentages, and understanding key terminology and equivalence.

Year 10 student Finn tackled probability concepts such as events and outcomes before moving on to rates, ratios, and proportions for an upcoming assignment.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Alex studied the production and transmission of electromagnetic waves in Physics and practiced numerical problem-solving alongside revision of integration techniques in Mathematics.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student in Physics mixed up formulas for derivatives and antiderivatives, leading to confusion during problem-solving—"he sometimes mixes up the stuff," noted a tutor.

In Year 11 Maths, forgetting key constants slowed down progress with numericals, while another senior struggled to recall standard deviation and variance formulas in Statistics.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student had trouble correctly labelling headings on the place value board, which made it harder to organise answers.

During reading tasks in Year 3, reluctance to participate meant missed opportunities for practice; one session required repeated prompting just to get started.

Recent Achievements

One Somerton Park tutor noticed James is now solving most maths problems in class after previously needing extra support and even started asking for more challenging questions.

Chloe, also in high school, has moved from hesitating on worded problems to working through them independently during sessions—she recently tackled several ratio questions by herself without prompting.

Meanwhile, in Year 3, Jye used to be quiet and reserved but has begun involving himself fully in lessons and now brings home books to share his spelling lists and writing pieces with real pride.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glenelg Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart College - Marcellin Campus.
