Most tutors forget that students never enjoy tutoring, so it is important to set interesting challenges to keep students motivated and also polishing their skills using unorthodox methods. Too much of the time tutors just read off the textbook and don't provide alternative methods or keep the students' focus on their work. I believe the students…

The most important thing as a tutor is to encourage them when they are stressed or worried about the subject. Once they are encouraged they will be more willing to complete the set homework but also trust you as a tutor. I believe I am able to motivate my students to achieve their very best also to give them confidence in what they are good…

To listen to the students' needs. Once you understand someone's problem, working with them to fix it is a lot easier, and this applies to education as well. Understanding leads to being able to provide a personalized learning experience for the student, ensuring they are more successful. Being approachable and accommodating are two of my biggest…

One of the most important things a tutor can offer is patience. Sometimes elements of a subject can be hard to understand and it is our duty as tutors to be patient and help them. We must provide examples and try explaining the problem in different ways — no two students are the same, so we must alter our approach to fit a student's needs. I…

There are 3 things a tutor must do in order to be successful and respected: listen, care and try (all three of these are my strongest points). My ability to connect with the student, empathise with their weak points and endeavour to provide them with specific questions and techniques will be a great asset for the EzyMath team. My strengths are…

Instil confidence in one's ability and a good work ethic. If a tutor can instil confidence in the student, so that no matter their skill level they know they can perform to the best of their ability, than I believe that's one of the most important achievements they can do. Confidence is key in school and in life, and if the student doesn't believe…

I think above all else, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them and give them the necessary skills and understanding to be able to work independently, and to better understand the studying strategy that suits them best. It is important that a tutor is able to teach a student but more important than this is that a…

Be encouraging - Student's won't understand something straight away and this can be a source of discouragement for them. The last thing they need is a tutor who refuses to acknowledge this. Inside South HurstvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Andy worked on De Moivre's theorem and roots of unity, along with exploring complex loci using visual representations;

Year 11 student Mia practised converting complex numbers between exponential, polar, and Cartesian forms, as well as reviewing key terminology in the topic;

meanwhile, Year 7 student Lucas focused on revising linear equations and was introduced to quadratic expansion through targeted exercises on factorisation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often halted when answers weren't immediate, hesitating instead of working through problems—a tutor noted, "practise with exercises, do not stop and give up if answer is not immediately obvious."

In Year 11 Physics, another leaned heavily on memorised formulas rather than building understanding through proofs or practical application.

During Year 12 exam revision, one student avoided attempting unfamiliar extension questions without solutions to guide them.

These patterns meant deeper concepts were sometimes missed and resilience during challenging tasks didn't fully develop—leaving moments of uncertainty when facing complex or open-ended problems in assessments.

Recent Achievements

One South Hurstville tutor noticed a big change in a Year 11 student who used to quietly guess at integration questions; now, he actively spots which parts of the problem need substitution and asks clarifying questions instead of waiting for hints.

Another high schooler, Lachlan, recently started connecting algebraic techniques from complex numbers to new topics—he managed to convert between different forms of vectors on his own after struggling last term.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student made a leap by not just recalling multiplication facts but independently tackling the first steps of long division without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

we are very pleased with the tutoring sessions Mario is providing. His tutoring has made a significant improvement to our daughters maths grades and has helped to increase our daughter's confidence with maths which she struggled with previously. He is also very patient, polite and punctual.

Definitely i would say that Lamia is a great Tutor and is tutoring Krintel really well, she is quite comfortable with Lamia and is surely getting support from her which she has been waiting for. Thanks once again for introducing Lamia to us.

So far so good. The kids are actually enjoying their time with Agnes so that's s good sign. Jaren came out of last weeks tutorial session saying "well you learn something new everyday". It just gives them more confidence with mathematical concepts, I think they're getting something out of it. Thank you.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as South Hurstville—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marist Catholic College Penshurst - South Hurstville Campus.
