Understanding what they understand and don't. If you don't adapt accordingly, not only will it take longer, but even if you can help them understand, you won't foster a sense of confidence in the student for further studies. Adaptability and a deeper understanding of the subject matter I'm teaching, which lets me approach problems from different…

A tutor must be adaptable and proactive. They must observe a student's progress and deduce what method they learn best and adjust their teaching accordingly. Each student is different and has different capacities of learning and a good teacher must identify them for each student and make the best out of their unique potential. I can teach the…

Build the confidence of the student.Whether it be in asking a question from me or confidently answering a quesyion on a paper. Also making the student see the beauty of what they are learning is important. Learning not just for the sake of a grade but learning to understand the beauty behind concepts . What I consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, encourage independent thinking, and create a safe and supportive environment for learning. A tutor’s role isn’t just to provide the right answers, but to help the student understand the reasoning behind them. It’s also important to…

It sounds basic but it is a common error made by tutors. Making sure that the student understands more than just how to solve the problem. That they understand the underlying concepts behind every problems they do. Even if they do not wish to pursue the field in the future, understanding the concepts will give them the confidence to approach all…

In fact, I grew up having a few tutors but found that they all lacked one thing - constant support. Tutors should be a friendly guiding figure that the student feels that they can approach at any time for assistance. As a tutor, the best thing that I can give to a student is the confidence for them to feel that they can achieve greater and better things. A tutor can also inspire a student to be like them, a positive role model that helps shape…

To teach students that it is okay to be wrong or make mistakes as long as you correct it afterwards. It is important to attempt to answer each question on a test and work sheet as if you attempt it then you might get some points on your final grade. It is also important to become self confident and trust that you can tackle any problem. I will…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make a student feel heard and valued. The most important thing a tutor can do would be to maintain a strict regimen on what is expected in a student. Students that are set in the easy and slow pace that their classroom teachers assert themselves will fall behind easily. It is vital that a tutor recognise and go the extra mile to attain new resources and schedules for their student to…

I view the role of a tutor as more of a assistant to the teacher. I main goal for the a tutor is to go in-depth on discussed in the classroom allowing the students to wrap their head around concepts that were once perceived as difficult and challenging. It is the tutors role to teaching correct habits and strategies to tackle difficult or…

Inside SpringvaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Zara worked on trigonometric ratios and similar triangles, using diagrams to solve for unknowns and apply similarity rules.

Year 10 student Jamie focused on consolidating knowledge of compound interest through textbook questions and tackled worded problems involving sales commissions and tax brackets.

For a younger learner in Year 6, Alex practised converting fractions to percentages as well as finding the percentage of a given amount within financial maths.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Chemistry, a student's lab report writing was described as "a little hard to interpret at times," with formatting making conclusions unclear. In the same subject, short-answer exam sections moved slowly and explanations lacked precision—this left less time for extended responses under test conditions.

A Year 9 Maths student repeatedly relied on a calculator for division and multiplication ("she currently solely does long division"), which slowed problem-solving and blocked quick mental checks during class quizzes.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner often forgot materials like pencils and worksheets, making it harder to participate in hands-on tasks or follow along during lessons.

Recent Achievements

One Springvale tutor noted a Year 11 student who used to get stuck on redox equations is now independently balancing full redox reactions and double-checking with oxidation numbers—something he previously found confusing.

Another high school student has shifted from silent guessing to actively talking through her approach on short-answer chemistry questions, clearly outlining her reasoning as she works.

Meanwhile, in Year 4, a student who was hesitant about adding large numbers is now confidently using his fingers to add four-digit numbers without prompting, finishing problems that would have stalled him before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Dingley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Springvale Rise Primary School-Springvale Road Campus.
