It’s the ability to put things into simple ways that students can understand and apart from that it’s to also make sure that the learning process is fun and enjoyable so that learning won’t feel boring. I would say I’m great in explaining others about things especially in a simpler terms or a way that’ll help people understand things…

Listening to the student's feedback at all times because even if a tutor is knowledgable, they need to have the ability to teach well and if the tutor isn't teaching to the style the student likes being taught, it will be ineffective so tutors should change their ways of teaching according to the student if neccessary. A tutor will always need to…

I think the guidance is the most important part. Tutors are there to not only teach but to provide wisdom and guidance. In my experience throughout the years, when I taught year 11s I needed to help guide them to make better decisions. The reality is that we do not have full control of their academic journey, but we can help support their…

A tutor should always recognise the level of capability and understanding of a student in order to cater towards their learning needs. Different students learn differently and understanding that allows each and every student to learn effectively. It is important to show the student that you care and are there to support them. It is very important…

Tutoring should foster curiosity, collaboration, and deeper understanding. I aim to create this environment through patient guidance, genuine engagement, and careful…

To help promote a high level of intuitive understanding, hence developing a sense of mastery in any given subject. This is beneficial as it ensures the content learned will be retained and recallable in the future with relative ease. Another important factor would include presenting the content as clearly and concisely as possible, to avoid…

I think the most important thing is making sure the student enjoys the subject. There's nothing worse than trying to teach an unmotivated student because then there will be no progress. My strengths include being patient and having an upbeat attitude towards children. Since I've taught children with short attention spans, I have no problem in…

Inside SpringvaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Zara worked on trigonometric ratios and similar triangles, using diagrams to solve for unknowns and apply similarity rules.

Year 10 student Jamie focused on consolidating knowledge of compound interest through textbook questions and tackled worded problems involving sales commissions and tax brackets.

For a younger learner in Year 6, Alex practised converting fractions to percentages as well as finding the percentage of a given amount within financial maths.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Chemistry, a student's lab report writing was described as "a little hard to interpret at times," with formatting making conclusions unclear. In the same subject, short-answer exam sections moved slowly and explanations lacked precision—this left less time for extended responses under test conditions.

A Year 9 Maths student repeatedly relied on a calculator for division and multiplication ("she currently solely does long division"), which slowed problem-solving and blocked quick mental checks during class quizzes.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner often forgot materials like pencils and worksheets, making it harder to participate in hands-on tasks or follow along during lessons.

Recent Achievements

One Springvale tutor noted a Year 11 student who used to get stuck on redox equations is now independently balancing full redox reactions and double-checking with oxidation numbers—something he previously found confusing.

Another high school student has shifted from silent guessing to actively talking through her approach on short-answer chemistry questions, clearly outlining her reasoning as she works.

Meanwhile, in Year 4, a student who was hesitant about adding large numbers is now confidently using his fingers to add four-digit numbers without prompting, finishing problems that would have stalled him before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Dingley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Springvale Rise Primary School-Springvale Road Campus.
