Educators play an important role in how students minds are shaped and how they approach problems in their studies. Believing in students that they can achieve their goal is one of the most important aspects of teaching them so it encourages them to strive towards their goal rather than realise they aren't capable enough. Watching them set out a…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to encourage them and to listen to them. A tutors job is to guid a student in the right redirection. A tutor can tailor the their teaching to the students needs so they are both working together. The tutor must be an excellent listener to understand how the student thinks and what they need…

Help them reach their full potential without doing all the work for them; I think it is important to let them do some hard work now and again so they can appreciate it more when they are congratulated for their success, and so that they are not 'coddled' into thinking other people will do all their work for them. Some of my strengths would…

I consider self belief and self motivation are the most important skills a tutor can instill in a student I believe my strength as a tutor revolve around the fact I am a hardworking, patient, self motivated high school teacher who loves the satisfaction of an excellent result. However my weakness as a tutor would be that I like to spend a little…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is be patient and supportive, while trying to make the learning experience fun and interactive. The only way the student will improve is if they are feeling comfortable at all times to ask questions without fear of feeling like they are incompetent. And it is the Tutor's responsibility to…

It's important for a tutor to be able to provide a positive and safe learning environment for their students, where the focus is upon developing useful skills and knowledge rather than being limited by specific content. My strengths would be that I am very patient, sensitive and sympathetic, and I would definitely be able to make my students feel…

Inspire them. Anyone can regurgitate textbook material in a different way. But only few can truly educate and inspire their students to become the very best version of themselves. Some of the strengths that I believe are quite necessary for a tutor other than leadership are resilience, and the ability to properly analyse a students learning…

In my view, It's not just about covering the day's lesson; it's about building their confidence, and offering unwavering support. It's about creating a positive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Furthermore, setting achievable goals and nurturing a passion for learning are also…

In my opinion it is extremely important to ensure the learner knows that it is safe to not succeed at first as learning is a process full of unsuccessful attempts. This will allow students to participate fearlessly in a tutoring session. Building that trust and relationship with students is an integral part of tutoring. It will enable students to…

It is pivotal that the tutor is always easily approachable as otherwise shy students may be reluctant to ask the tutor questions and thus those shy kids may end up falling behind. In addition, I feel that tutors must always be supportive towards the student as any harsh or negative comments may severely hinder a students willingness and ability to…

I believe that every individual learns things in different ways. In a classroom, each teacher will have their own way of presenting and teaching the content, and this method is most likely to be consistent throughout the year. Whilst this may cater for some students, and help them excel in the particular subject, it might not be suitable for other…

It is very important for me as tutor to ensure that a student do not feel demotivated. I think that a tutor can be successful if he can improve the base of a subject for the children and instead of just making them learn concepts, if the tutor can make it understandable and interesting that should be the most important thing. I have good knowledge about both the subjects so tutoring for them would not be very difficult and also I…

The most important thing is to understand each student as a person so that you can personalise their learning and teach to their strengths. This comes with communicating and listening to what that student has to say to you. I like to ask students questions about their background with the subject, or related subjects and what they're hoping to…

Be approachable and pay attention. It's very hard to put your own worldview aside when it comes to knowledge, and many people are likely not even cognisant of that, but you need to understand that you know things that the child doesn't even know what they don't know. I make learning a bit more laid back and approachable. My strength is in relating…

Local Reviews

Janelle has been a great tutor to my son who is in grade 4. It has been 7 weeks since he started his Tutoring and he has gained knowledge and confidence in his English and Maths. Janelle has been a great, experienced tutor who makes learning fun for kids and gets them gagging for more knowledge. She has been a great fit for our son and we have Ezymath to thank for providing a great tutor.

Inside SpringwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ethan worked on adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominators and converting improper fractions to mixed numbers, using number lines for clarity.

In Year 9, Chloe practised solving equations by transposing terms and reviewed Pythagoras' theorem applications in geometry problems.

For Year 11, Marcus focused on linear regression techniques—finding trend line equations from scatter plots—and explored bivariate data analysis with correlation coefficients for his assessment task.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often arrived without essential stationery or with a flat calculator, which slowed progress in class tasks ("better stationary can help. his calculator seems flat").

In Year 10, messy or incomplete working when transposing equations made it difficult to identify where mistakes occurred—especially with fractions and squares.

A senior student preparing for maths exams tended to practice only familiar textbook questions instead of attempting the harder problem-solving types; this limited exposure to new scenarios.

In science, one student's report lacked clear structure, making key findings hard to follow.

Recent Achievements

One Springwood tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who used to rely on memory for solving equations—now he sets up equations himself and works through problems logically, which is a real change from guessing.

In another session, a high schooler stayed focused the whole time and even volunteered to do extra maths practice over the holidays, showing much more initiative than before.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, one student who was hesitant with fractions now confidently converts improper fractions to mixed numbers and explains her steps out loud while working through examples.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Logan North Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Springwood Road State School.
