I beleive the most important thing a tutor can be is have a sound knowledge of the feiled so that they can answer any questions. I think it is also very important to be friendly and to make the learning fun and more easier to be retained in your memory. My strengths would be that i have a high attention to detail and that i am very practical. I…

While one of the important roles a tutor plays is to help students in their understanding, I believe the most important role is to incentivise and motivate hard work, especially by setting a good example. Tutors can only be with their students for a few hours a week, so the onus is on the student themselves to get the hard work done. The…

As previously mentioned, I think the most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to listen. If you do not listen to the students expectations and responsiveness to the material then the sessions will not be productive, and the student will not improve. My strengths are that I am an incredibly patient tutor, as well as a good listener.…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is teach a student how to teach themselves and be self sufficient. Once the student knows how to learn, they can take on tougher and tougher concepts and still succeed. I believe my greatest strength is my perspective that my time as a uni student has given me. When tutoring I believe my experience…

To make learning fun and stress free. The student is coming to you for help. they don't want to be pressured too much and you have to show that what you are tutoring is interesting. During year 11 and 12, I had a tutor for specialist maths and chemistry. I know that being a tutor isn't necessarily the easiest job as you are dealing with people who…

Firstly, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to what the student believes they need to work on and aid them with that. The student needs are the highest priority and it is important they feel heard and listened to. Additionally, I believe that it’s important that we as tutors take the time to acquire extra…

An effective tutor should help the student learn concepts through understanding, rather than ROTE learning. A tutor should help their students develop a solid foundational understanding and how they relate to one another, in order to effectively apply information. In my opinion, the tutor must be able to make ideas more basic for the student, which is the most effective way to teach someone. You can’t teach someone rocket science if they can’t do linear equations, so first teach them linear equations. Also often a student has an easier way of understanding than a teacher has given them, and so it helps…

A good tutor will be able to make a connection with their student, and can understand their individual needs as a learner. I think that if a tutor isn't able to do this, then any knowledge they possess can't be effectively taught. I think a good tutor should also have a strong grasp over whatever they teach, and being able to teach is the biggest…

Since students most commonly get tutoring as they do not understand the approach taken by their teacher to the subject, I believe the most important thing is to relate to the student, and see the problem from their perspective. This leads to the ability to create personalised approaches to the theories presented in class, and allow the student to…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to be someone that can focus on just them (1-on-1), where a teacher cannot, and to find a specific way to teach them based on the students needs (i.e. How the student learns best?). A teacher is unable to do this as much as they have many students to focus on. But tutors can…

In my opinion, the two most important skills for tutoring are patience and positivity. As the ability to remain calm and respectful, and having a positive attitude can make the difference between a motivated student and an unmotivated student. I strongly believe a good tutor must be able to explain complicated concepts in a way that 'makes sense'…

Show the student how manageable getting good grades in a subject really is and how capable they are of doing so. I believe a tutor should be able to foster a passion for the subject in the student and make it engaging and interesting. Local Reviews

The EzyMath team has been very easy to work with - our tutor is very punctual, proactive, polite, flexible, and my child has been enjoying her lessons! She has been picking up new concepts and her confidence has increased! The online team has also been great, in particular their communication is excellent (they are prompt to reply to emails and check in regularly). I am really happy overall with the service they are providing.

Inside St LuciaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 Cara spent several sessions strengthening her foundation in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, gradually moving on to fractions and exploring angles using diagrams.

Year 8 Arnav focused on data analysis for a maths assignment, specifically comparing two groups using mean, median, and mode while interpreting results from charts.

Meanwhile, Year 9 Masiha tackled trigonometry concepts including right-angled triangles (sin, cos, tan) and progressed to three-digit bearings in later lessons.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4 mathematics, Cara repeatedly relied on a "cheat sheet" for times tables and hesitated when faced with multiplication or division involving larger numbers. As one tutor noted, "she tended to guess answers instead of working through each step," especially when the material wasn't her favourite.

In senior biology (Year 12), Arnav struggled to integrate others' research into his own writing and found it difficult to synthesize several sources into a single argument. This led to drafts that were overly detailed but lacked cohesion—drafting became overwhelming rather than productive when he felt pressured to get it perfect in one go.

Recent Achievements

A recent St Lucia tutoring session saw one Year 10 student move from hesitating with multi-step maths problems to confidently working through each stage and even catching their own small errors without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student who used to get frustrated with data analysis now independently identifies patterns in statistics and explains what the results mean, showing more initiative than before.

In Year 5, Cara—who was previously quiet during lessons—has started raising her hand for help when stuck and finished an entire set of division questions on her own for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as West End Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ironside State School.
