I believe it is very important for a tutor to give all the attention to his students, imagine with them, understand their psychology and act accordingly, help them guide in areas of difficulty and challenge them to do better. I have excellent knowledge of mathematics and have amazing abilities to import my knowledge of these subjects to my…

Having faced challenges in Science during my high school, I am aware of the problems students face in understanding complex mathematical concepts. My method is to build a strong relationship with the student. The student should not take me as a teacher but more like a friend or brother whom the student can confide in. They should discuss their…

Things that are most important a tutor can do for a student is being reliable and patient with students. Whenever a student doesn't understand something and they ask you it is important to not demean them as that will make them think negatively of themselves and become afraid to ask questions in the future. It is good to have an open mind when it…

A few of the most important things that a tutor can do for a student are: - provide accurate information of the subject being taught, - encouraging students, - behave appropriately, - listen to their problems. I believe a tutor can prepare interactive lectures, so that students can participate in the lectures. That technique is very helpful to get the maximum attention of the students. Moreover, a tutor can provide real life example of the topics so that students can easily relate the study contents with the real world. I can easily get synchronized…

I think that understanding why a student is struggling is the most important thing a tutor can do. A student may be struggling with the subject itself or may be struggling with a specific concept. Additionally there may be external factors creating conflicts for the student. Being able to listen and relate has helped me become a great teacher in…

Understand his situation. Usually, they don't have a clear understanding of the basics and it is extremely important to know what level do they have and practice what might be the hardest. Tutor is a guidance and the support. A right tutor can shape the future of the student. As the Chinese proverb goes: "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he will eat for lifetime". Hence I would say tutor plays a very important role in shaping the education and career of the student by teaching him/her the right…

Everything starts with guidance. Words are so powerful. So the main duty for a tutor is to give the key points to the student and make the student love the subject. So if you give the right guidance to the student they will be more courageous in the following courses. Because i was a honours student both in high school and university, i believe…

I am of the opinion that the most important things for tutors to do is to be patient and make the student feel comfortable. It is perfectly normal not to understand or struggle with ideas that are taught in class immediately and students should feel as though they aren't getting judged because of it. Tutors are their to help and improve their…

The most important thing a tutor can do is inspire the students to be successful. This might mean pushing them to study harder, it also might not mean this. It is also important for a tutor to gauge a students potential to see how hard they should push their students. For the less talented students, a lot of patience would be needed. A greater…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to develop their skills to a high level or a level higher than what is was prior to tutoring - essentially to boost their competence and confidence for the subject area they are being tutored for. Another objective includes motivating the student to enjoy maths (or any other subject) beyond…

A tutor can make a student love the subject he/she hates. The most important thing for a tutor is to understand the student, his/her interests, aptitude, and what he/she is inclined towards. If you have a basic idea of the student mindset you can develop techniques to make them understand the subject in a way they don't find it hard. Gamification…

Inside StrathfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jacob focused on advanced algebra, tackling worded problems ahead of class pace in maths and developing time-pressured writing and editing skills in English, including analysing text structure.

For Year 9, Amanda worked intensively on exam revision, targeting earlier-term maths topics for reinforcement and creating essays in English as part of her exam preparation.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Lily reviewed key numeracy concepts for NAPLAN by practising division and multiplication questions using sample test materials.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 English, Jacob struggled to translate strong verbal analysis into structured writing—his ability to discuss as proof of him being able to correctly form reasoning, however his confidence when it comes to writing heavily restricts this reasoning.

In mathematics (Year 8), a reluctance to consistently write working led to errors in algebra and worded problems; he often defaulted to solving mentally, which became overwhelming on harder questions.

For HSC Biology, one student included unnecessary details in short answers and missed key terminology, making it difficult for them to link concepts under exam pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Strathfield recently saw Jacob, a Year 8 student, move from avoiding written working-out to actively using it—now he tackles multi-step algebra and quadratic questions much faster than before.

In senior science, Luke showed new initiative by completing practice exam papers on his own without prompting, something he hesitated to do earlier in the term.

Meanwhile, younger student Burla made a noticeable shift in problem-solving: after initially needing lots of help with time word questions, she now reads them independently and selects the correct operation herself before asking for feedback.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burwood Library and Community Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like Santa Sabina College, Santa Maria del Monte.
