One of the most vital things a tutor should do is ensure that he is understood teaching-wise and that he understands his pupils perfectly. One thing that some teachers don't have is empathy for the unique condition of a student. A student's ability to learn can be affected in various ways, like by his surroundings and so on. It is significantly…

I believe that it is paramount for a tutor to understand that every student learns differently and therefore may need a different approach to studying to achieve their goals. A tutor should ask their student how they learn best and implement this feedback into their approach to tutoring. Similarly, it is important to understand that each student…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be empathetic to the experience of a student, especially as a young person. Having been a recent graduate, I understand the pressures, stress and desires surrounding ones education and the want to improve and evolve as a learner. Therefore, being empathetic allows a tutor to…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to build up a student's self belief so they can continue improving and reach their goals, whether they be academic or not. Tutoring is about giving a student the space they need to make mistakes, and teaching them that it is okay to make them. It is important that a student and tutor can build up a…

A tutor should focus on empowering the student, rather than simply teaching the content to them, so that when the tutor is not present, the student is still able to motivate themselves and have confidence in their ability without having someone to rely on. I think a tutor needs to be patient and easy going in a way that students can be comfortable with, and question things they feel unable to question in their school classroom. I think tutors need to teach their students the importance of practice and resilience, especially in VCE. English is a subject which takes lots of practice and dedication, it…

Inside Sunshine NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Allegra worked through ordering fractions on a number line and practiced adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions in revision exercises.

In Year 10, Jayden completed practice exams for an upcoming maths test, focusing on applying algebraic techniques and problem-solving under timed conditions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Arjun focused on quadratic equations by learning to use the quadratic formula and mastering the discriminant to solve for unknown constants and intersection points.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student relied heavily on memorization in Methods and hesitated to use the graphic calculator efficiently, slowing progress with quadratic problems. As a tutor noted, "needs much more practice with the graphic calculator… and mastering the quadratic formula."

In contrast, a Year 5 student repeatedly forgot to bring books home or complete homework, making it hard to track content or prepare for upcoming lessons—she arrived without materials and struggled to recall past work.

Organization lapses and inconsistent revision led both students to forget key methods or feel unprepared when new topics appeared, leaving them frustrated in-session.

Recent Achievements

One Sunshine North tutor recently noticed a Year 7 student who used to avoid asking for help now regularly pauses to check her understanding before moving on, showing much more initiative than in earlier sessions.

In high school, a Year 10 student who once needed step-by-step guidance with circular functions can now recall key values and solve complex questions mentally. Last week she completed advanced problems under timed conditions with minimal prompting.

Another win came from a Year 12 maths session where the student applied newly learned formulas to trickier graphing questions and immediately explained her reasoning back to the tutor without hesitation.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Working with Ezy Math Tutoring has given me the opportunity to excel students skills and capability in mathematics. The biggest accomplishment as a tutor is seeing a student's face light up when the solve a problem. It makes me proud to see that students have responded well to my teaching methods and that they attain a sense of satisfaction from learning. I came to ezy maths tutoring to meet new people and gain further experience working with eager students. Ezy maths tutoring has taught me patience, understanding and to sincerely enjoy teaching and learning. I would recommend Ezy maths tutoring to individuals who are eager and determined to develop a more thorough understanding of mathematics and develop an appreciation of the subject and the tutors hard work. 18th July 2012

With an interest in communicating the knowledge i've learnt, I looked towards tutoring. It was an opportunity to not only help student learning from personal experience, but improve upon the knowledge of subjects I'm interested in. With encouragement and providing opportunities to improve tutoring skills, Ezy Math tutoring was a perfect place to start my tutoring career. 18th July 2012

Working with Ezy Math Tutoring was great because all tutors are continuously supported in various ways. It is not only a teaching experience but also a learning experience. Tutors gain skills through work, weekly training and materials online. The continuous communication between tutors, students, parents and Ezy Math Tutoring is very important and valuable. 19th July 2012
