Whether this is confidence, the knowledge that someone believes in them, strategies for studying and/or comprehension, through to developing initiative, self correction skills and the ability to constantly improve, tutoring is a…

I think that as a tutor, being able to understand the perspective of the student is crucial in educating them. Tutoring is a student-centred occupation and one should be able to assess students' knowledge in real time in order to develop effective teaching solutions. Another important tutoring technique is to be prepared for sessions. Whether it…

It is always for me to put their thoughts first and give them the importance. It is simply how a student learn and grow. A little bit of channeling of concepts, guidance and being there as a support is what makes it work. It is all about concepts how well you know them and how easy you can make them for students to understand. I always try to…

To teach a topic is to simplify it, make the students imagine and live in the topic by giving them real life examples and case studies. As a tutor I beleive in understanding student's perspective, I try to put myself in their shoes and consider all the possibilities. Approach tutoring with an open mind. Some students can easily grasp the concepts while the others it may take time or a special approach for them to understand.Making the student feel comfortable is very important to allow them to express themselves and feel free to ask if they don't understand. As far as my understanding, as a tutor, he/she always needs to motivate their students to think more widely and creatively. It is true, initially, they will fail several times. Allowing them to do it, will build their confidence for their future, which will be eventually worth it for their life. As a tutor, I am always friendly, patiently try to…

Students, in my opinion, are like clay that can be molded in any way. And if I have such a wonderful opportunity, I'll do everything in my power to make the most of it. I believe that a tutor should always be ready to help pupils with their concerns. In order for students to do better under him, a tutor must not only assist students academically…

The most important thing that a tutor can provide for a student is support and motivation. When a student is struggling, they have low self-efficacy and motivation to engage with the subject. A tutor should be able to provide lessons to a student which are tailored to their abilities and learning style. Baden is an excellent tutor, and he did great work.
Kat, Tarragindi

Inside TarragindiTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Ava practiced converting between decimals, percentages, and fractions, and solved chance questions using probability expressed as fractions.

Year 9 student Chloe worked through algebraic skills including expanding brackets and factorising quadratic expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ben focused on the quadratic equation alongside techniques for solving linear equations and manipulating algebraic terms.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student working on polynomials needs improvement checking back over her work to ensure she doesn't make simple mistakes—overlooking this step led to avoidable errors persisting through solutions.

In Year 9 algebra, one student hesitated to trust their own working, repeatedly questioning themselves and slowing progress; as the tutor noted, he doubted himself constantly which doesn't allow him to reach his full potential.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student's maths written work was sometimes unclear because numbers were placed in the wrong columns during multiplication—this made it harder for both student and tutor to spot where confusion began.

Recent Achievements

One Tarragindi tutor recently saw a Year 10 student move from frequent mistakes in expanding algebraic brackets to completing every question correctly and without hesitation.

Another high schooler who previously struggled to structure persuasive writing now drafts PESTO paragraphs independently, remembering all parts without reminders.

In primary sessions, a younger student who once guessed during oral reading now pauses to sound out difficult words, showing more care and accuracy with each line.

The same student finished his latest story plan entirely on his own—something he'd never attempted before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Annerley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Wellers Hill State School.
