The most important part of tutoring in my opinion is being able to adapt to different students requirements, and noticing what each student needs most from you. Some students need someone to slowly work through problems and teach them the process, while others need someone to help enforce good habits and routines rather than purely just teaching,…

In my eyes, one of the most important aspects of a tutor would be the ability to see things through the student's perspective. Being able to pinpoint exactly what the student needs help with can make the entire learning experience more efficient and a lot more rewarding overall. It also makes the student feel a lot more comfortable, as a learning…

The most important thing for a tutor is to develop a professional but genuine relationship with rapport with the student. I believe it is paramount not only to teach the content, but also to develop quality study skills and a healthy relationship with the student to encourage them to succeed in study throughout schooling, to uni and until the rest…

I think that the most important part of being a tutor is not only teaching a student on how to excel at the particular subject, but teach them to develop certain study habits and techniques that they will then be able to utilize and apply to different subjects as well. Therefore building a foundation of study skills which they can then apply…

Other than endeavor to increase the student's performance and confidence in the subject. I believe a tutor must be able to generate interest in the subject so that the student is motivated to study and their performance consistently improves and is sustained. The most important thing as a tutor is to guide the students think positively. I was influenced by my high school maths teacher so much and even now I remember what he said to the class, "all maths is easy, none of these are hard" and "practice makes progress". Primarily to increase the students grades in the given subject. However doing so by helping them become better learners themeselves rather than 'spoonfeeding' information. As this will help them for all other subjects and throughout life. I believe I am a great communicator, especially when getting ideas across. I have a great passion for…

To help the student "translate" the words of a question into something that they understand. Instead of showing them the answer, to teach them how to solve this kind of problem. I am patient, I have a very good memory so I remember most subjects/topics from the later years of high school, so I am somewhat familiar with the general concepts of the…

I feel that the most important things a tutor can do for a student, especially a student in high school is to reduce stress. I think being able to communicate effectively is very important for a tutor.He/she should be able to put himself in the student's shoes. And accordingly elucidate concepts. Every student has his own strengths and weakness in a subject. The tutor should be able to identify these. Apart from this, a tutor should have very strong basics.Only if…

A tutor should be able to listen and make sure they are addressing exactly what the student needs. Inside TriggTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Paige focused on converting fractions to decimals and percentages, as well as multiplying numbers with decimals using step-by-step examples.

For Year 10, Benji worked through finding equations of linear graphs and explored the relationships between parallel and perpendicular lines by calculating midpoints and segment lengths.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student James tackled more advanced compound interest problems involving non-annual compounding, and revisited key concepts in surds for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student did not complete assigned homework on finding midpoints and distinguishing non-linear correlation, which limited their readiness for new material.

In Year 9, messy working—such as skipping writing out equations—meant errors in rearranging trigonometric equations were harder to spot; as one tutor observed, "he didn't write down the equations and didn't understand them fully."

A Year 6 student avoided practice with fraction-to-percent conversions, preferring easier multiplication drills instead.

Meanwhile, a senior student became flustered during wordy probability questions, hesitating after misreading key phrases like "at least"—leading to repeated confusion in tree diagrams.

Recent Achievements

A Trigg tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who had previously struggled with rearranging equations finally grasp the process of cross multiplication, now able to solve these independently after needing reminders in earlier sessions.

Another high schooler showed a real shift by bringing all her past homework and test results to lessons, demonstrating initiative and a new willingness to review mistakes—something she used to avoid.

Meanwhile, a younger student made clear progress by reciting most of the four times table at a reasonable speed for the first time, after weeks of hesitancy with recall.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Karrinyup Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Mary's Anglican Girls' School.
