If a student is not able to understand the concept, a tutor should change pedagogy. A tutor can take help of learning aid, activity based learning etc. I come to the mental level of the student according to the grade and individual differences. I try to develop basic concepts first and then proceed further. I can teach in both ways either one to…

Inside West LakesTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ella worked on trigonometric ratios and applied these to solve problems involving angles of elevation and depression, using real-world scenarios.

In Year 10, Daniel practised sketching parabolas by completing the square and also focused on observing how parabolic graphs change under transformations.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Emily explored financial mathematics topics such as simple and compound interest alongside future value annuities, with practical calculations built into her lesson.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student admitted to not practicing any assigned work this week, leading to confusion in negative indices and a need for double homework.

In Year 11, persistent "silly mistakes" in quizzes surfaced, even when concepts were well understood—one tutor noted, "steps in working out a problem are missing, too much pen and paper."

For a Year 10 topic on bearings, confidence faltered unless problems were drawn out; skipping this step caused repeated angle errors.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student relied heavily on mental maths during circle questions, which resulted in skipped steps and sign mix-ups.

Recent Achievements

One West Lakes tutor noted a Year 11 student who, after previously hesitating to check her answers, now double-checks each step and talks herself through tricky SOHCAHTOA triangle problems—she even caught her own errors before the tutor pointed them out.

In another session with a senior student, he started off unsure about calculus methods but was soon explaining every investigation step back to the tutor after just a few examples.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who used to mix up area formulas has begun picking the correct one right away and explains her reasoning as she works through new questions.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Jade has been absolutely wonderful with Lucas. He's enjoying his tutoring sessions and sounding more confident about  Maths already. We understand it may take quite a while to see any improvement in his actual marks but there has already been a definite improvement in his attitude towards his capabilities. Lucas is very happy with Jade and we will definitely be continuing the tutoring.

We chose EzyMath Tutoring as that is the subject our daughter  most needed help with, and we decided to pick specialists in this subject over other tutors who seemed to do everything.  Our tutor Emma, was a uni student, very professional, friendly, she worked very well with our daughter.  Emma had lots of great tricks and tips for Madison to use in her studying and test-taking, broke some things down so they didn't seem so scary or overwhelming to our daughter.  Madison was much more confident in math class, homework was easier, she was more confident in taking exams.  It meant a lot to Madison and us, a lot less stress at home when it wasn't my husband or I trying to teach her with all the emotions that tend to go along with that.  I would recommend EzyMath tutoring to anyone looking to improve their math skills.

Thanks for the follow up.  Yes I am very happy with Sean, he has worked with Machlin through some difficult times and nothing has been a problem for Sean.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Civic Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Seaton High School.
