According to me available for the student at the time of need that is more important and identifying exactly where the student get stuck or need help is what makes an efficient tutor. Explanation capacity and clarity of specific topics in subject about basics and pointing it in student's mind is the best strength that I have so far. Along with it…

If you are a tutor, your job is to empower other people. Even if you are picking up blind spots, asking a student to paraphrase something, or advising more research in a particular area, there are ways to convey this information that are encouraging and helpful, (rather than condescending). We all have blind spots, too. I have found it…

I think it's okay for tutors to make mistakes while teaching, but these mistakes have to be found out and clearly explained to the students afterwards. Hence the most important thing I think as a tutor is to be sincere and responsible. I am academically excellent on Maths and I am fully confident on teaching this subject since I achieved higher…

Understanding the needs of every individual student and making sure that he/she can help the student in every way possible. Gaining the students trust and making them comfortable around you so that they do not hesitate to ask you anything is important as well. I believe the most important thing for a tutor to do is to guide their students through a difficult concept step by step, and lend them as much assistance as necessary. Ultimately, the goal is to help the students to succeed. I have very recently graduated from high-school, thus I have a fresh understanding of what is taught and how it was taught.…

I believe in preparing a student to handle situation which the world throws at any point of time. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not spoon feed information, its the art of teaching the child to a degree where it helps them but doesnt answer the entire thing. Spoon feeding a student will only help temporarily and is very harmful. I believe my strengths are that i dont like to teach every child the same way. Each…

To me, one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be open and encouraging. Everyone (not only kids) gets embarrassed and scared to ask questions when they don't know what to do -- its our job to make sure they feel safe enough to ask so that they can fully grasp everything in their minds. If one of my students kept…

I would have to say the tutor would need to be driven. If the tutor doesn’t have that drive how will their student show any motivation or show the knowledge they’ve gained I think I’m quite patient. Patience is always ideal when tutoring as something cannot always be fully understood. Additionally I have been told I’m very understanding…

I'm convinced learning is an ongoing process and as a tutor, I hope to contribute the community by making a difference in the lives of young people. The most important thing will be to help the student find his/her interest in the subject. If they don't believe they can do it or that what they're learning is actually beneficial, they're only ever going to treat it as something they have to do. It'll be difficult for them to reach their potential in the subject. My strengths would be ability to…

Inside WillawongTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Priya focused on interpreting contour maps and applying bearings to real-world navigation problems.

In Year 10, James worked through finding solutions of simultaneous equations by graphing and reviewed statistical concepts like mean, median, and mode using practice questions.

For Year 12, Alisha tackled advanced calculus topics including integration techniques and partial fractions, as well as differential equations in the context of modelling motion.

Recent Challenges

Lesson notes from both Year 7 and Year 11 sessions reveal a consistent issue with incomplete written reports or missing homework.

For example, in a recent Year 11 session, "A few questions were left," suggesting that some assigned work was not finished, which limited opportunities for targeted feedback.

In a Year 7 lesson, the absence of a written report meant progress couldn't be tracked or reviewed at home. This sometimes led to confusion about what needed revision before tests—one tutor noted, "just had some confusion" when previous learning wasn't clearly documented.

Recent Achievements

A Willawong tutor recently noted a big step forward for a Year 10 student who completed all her maths assignment computations independently, after previously needing regular prompting to stay on track.

In another session with a Year 7 student, the tutor observed that she now asks questions when stuck instead of waiting passively—something she hadn't done before.

A younger primary student managed to finish every question within the set time limit for the first time, having struggled with focus and speed in earlier lessons.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Inala Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Australian International Islamic College.
