The most important thing a tutor can do isn't just to lead them to the right answers but help them build confidence and self-motivation. As a tutor, I aim to help students develop independence. For me, a successful teacher is someone who can guide students to no longer needing one. I am quick to identify the strengths and weaknesses of students…

I believe as a tutor, taking the time to truly understand my students, including their motivations, life story, personality, goals, dreams, and setbacks, is the most critical and important thing I can do. The tutor can do to his students is that guide them and make them learn the way that they're not pressured and relax so that they will look forward for my tutoring class not that they will drag themselves in my sessions. Learning in my class should be their comfort zones not to be pressured. My strength is that I graduated in an Engineering…

From my perspective, I feel the least and most important thing a tutor can do is to make sure that the student is 100% clear with all the content that is being gone through during the lesson. That is, the student is able to complete similar type of questions with 100% confidence. In order to achieve that, the tutor needs to adjust the pace of…

I believe that the purpose of a tutor is to tailor their teaching as closely as possible to the needs of every individual student; tutors should never take a one-size fits all approach to teaching. Whether that be addressing specific areas of weakness, or adopting a particular teaching style, every student has their own unique needs and ways of…

Patience. All the knowledge in the world doesn't help if you are unable to take the time and effort needed to cultivate understanding in a confused student. Patience, the ability to explain complex ideas in understandable language, I am quite friendly and compassionate, and I understand what it is like to be confused about a topic so I am ready to…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to adapt to their learning style and to be supportive. Not every student can be taught using the same plan, and it is necessary to change when needed so that a student can be successful. If a student needs a range of scenarios so that they can clearly understand the topic, it should be…

Constantly check on them and make sure they either understand or are having trouble. They must also ensure that the student doesn't think they will get in trouble or are stupid if they can't understand something. Maintaining a friendly and kind manner is essential to making the student feel safe and appreciated. Furthermore, all students need to…

The most important thing a tutor could do for a student is to make them more passionate and confident about their learning, as this will transition well past the tutoring period and into their future academics. Additionally, a tutor should help the student build good study habits that they can maintain independently. I'm very patient with people,…

I think it's okay for tutors to make mistakes while teaching, but these mistakes have to be found out and clearly explained to the students afterwards. A tutor can help student understand the concepts which can't be understood by the person himself. Firstly, a tutor needs to be a strong communicator; it doesnt't matter how smart you are, if you cannot explain the concepts to your students effectively, they won't be able to learn from you. Secondly, a good tutor is someone who can offer guidence through problems and assigments, without simply giving them the answer or doing it for them.…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide them with a reason as to why its important they need to study, other than just getting good grades. I think there is more than just schooling that is important in a tutor/student relationship. Each student is unique and has their own way of visualising and understanding. Inside WillawongTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Priya focused on interpreting contour maps and applying bearings to real-world navigation problems.

In Year 10, James worked through finding solutions of simultaneous equations by graphing and reviewed statistical concepts like mean, median, and mode using practice questions.

For Year 12, Alisha tackled advanced calculus topics including integration techniques and partial fractions, as well as differential equations in the context of modelling motion.

Recent Challenges

Lesson notes from both Year 7 and Year 11 sessions reveal a consistent issue with incomplete written reports or missing homework.

For example, in a recent Year 11 session, "A few questions were left," suggesting that some assigned work was not finished, which limited opportunities for targeted feedback.

In a Year 7 lesson, the absence of a written report meant progress couldn't be tracked or reviewed at home. This sometimes led to confusion about what needed revision before tests—one tutor noted, "just had some confusion" when previous learning wasn't clearly documented.

Recent Achievements

A Willawong tutor recently noted a big step forward for a Year 10 student who completed all her maths assignment computations independently, after previously needing regular prompting to stay on track.

In another session with a Year 7 student, the tutor observed that she now asks questions when stuck instead of waiting passively—something she hadn't done before.

A younger primary student managed to finish every question within the set time limit for the first time, having struggled with focus and speed in earlier lessons.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Inala Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Australian International Islamic College.
