I believe that the most important things a tutor can do for a student include: Provide individualized attention and support: A tutor should be able to understand the unique needs and learning styles of their students and tailor their approach accordingly. A tutor needs to understand that every student learns differently. Therefore it is important to understand, especially if a tutor has multiple students, that one lesson won't have the same effect on every student. Tutors must adapt to teach students specific details they do not know and in specific ways. I'm proficient at adapting my teaching…

I do NOT believe in spoon feeding. Most important is self - discipline and consistency. To built the habit of self-believing and working hard can be beneficial for a student its life! Learning is a life time process - so educating students to think out of the box, questioning, reasoning and working hard to find their ways are some key elements a…

The most important thing a tutor can do is just be present for that student. Being aware of the human being, whether they're having a good day or an off day, whether they're engaging with the set activities and learning criteria etc. I think the main point of tutoring is to tailor the activities to suit the individual's interests, while…

The most important thing is to engage with the student. It is more beneficial for the student and tutor to work together and be open to new ideas or methods to tackle questions. Instead of the tutor forcing the student to use one method, engaging with the student will lead to the most effective way to solve the question and will lead to successful…

To help them feel better. There are a lot of children who are scared of a subject or who always say „I‘m just not good at it“ and I want them to be able to say „Yeah, I understand it“ and feel better and more confident in the subject I am very patient and creative so I know many ways to explain one thing so that the individual child can…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them gain knowledge on an idea that wasn't understood prior to your tutoring. Again, I think it is a rewarding feeling to know that someone has learned something new because of you! As a person, I am extremely patient and understanding. I've been told I'm a great teacher as I've…

I consider encouragement, feedback and trust to be an important part of tutoring. The teacher should support the learner to become more confident in their own academic capabilities, giving them timely and accurate feedback. Also, it is just as important to build positive relationships with your students so they can come to you with their problems…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel comfortable learning the material the school gives them and to develop good study skills. Students have different learning styles and process information at different paces. A school can't accomodate all the individual learning styles of their students, but tutoring…

Help him to go further and improve himself by providing better advice than a classroom teacher. With this knowledge the tutor could provide advices focused on how to correct the student and allow him to have better scores easily. I'm…

Spending time and resources on improving myself so that the I as a tutor can make the student understand better. Being honest, patient and a good listener adds up to it. Also a tutor needs to be confident enough to make the student reach the goal. I am patient enough to listen and understand what the student want to say and where he/she might be…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to keep them motivated. Often at a young age if we fail to grasp a concept it can damage our self-confidence. Therefore it is a tutor's responsibility to bring out the 'never give up'attitude in students and motivate them to continue trying until they can overcome the hurdle. Tutors should…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is simply be open to answer any questions a student might have. The most important thing a teacher can do is not being strict towards the students and understand the point of view of the students themselves and how they see the problem or topic, then it'll be much easier to teach the students and make them understand. Since the teacher teaching a topic is much more experienced with the topic and whereas the…

The thing I enjoyed most about tutoring is making the world a better place by developing education for future generations and helping people to develop to be better people. Inside Williamstown NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Sophia focused on algebraic expansion and factorisation, as well as solving equations using substitution.

Year 10 student Marcus worked through sketching straight line graphs and determining x- and y-intercepts from equations.

For Year 11, Emily tackled differentiation basics and applied these skills to maximum and minimum problems using worked examples.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Methods, a student was asked to finish all questions and send them by email, but the work remained incomplete—meaning gaps in problem-solving practice before assessments.

Another student in Year 8, as noted, "needs to do more problems about factorization," yet homework tasks weren't consistently finished or reviewed.

In Year 12 Specialist Maths, reliance on calculators surfaced: one lesson flagged that matrix calculations should be revised by hand to truly grasp underlying methods. These moments meant missed chances for feedback and left key skills underdeveloped ahead of major exams.

Recent Achievements

One Williamstown North tutor noticed a Year 11 student who had struggled with graphing trigonometric functions now confidently tackling both sine and cosine graphs, even volunteering to try tangent graphs without prompting.

Another high schooler, previously hesitant to ask for help, took the initiative this week to explain which parts of her homework she didn't understand—then worked through those sections until she could solve similar problems independently.

Meanwhile, in Year 4 maths, a student who once rushed through answers has started checking his calculations carefully and finished all ten workbook questions with no mistakes.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Newport Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Australian Islamic Centre College.
