I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, personalise their learning experience, and inspire a love for learning. Confidence is foundational- when a student believes in their abilities, they are more willing to tackle challenges and push their limits. A tutor can foster this by celebrating…

A tutor has an integral part of a student's schooling journey. Obviously, a tutor is going to assist students with their academic needs, but there are also other important duties that a tutor must fulfill. From my own experience, I can say that a great tutor seeks to understand the student's ambitions. This includes but is not limited to…

Allow them to learn in a safe environment, where they will always be encouraged. I believe that tutors should be good listeners so as to allow students to approach them with any difficulty they may be facing in the school environment. I will attempt to share with them personal experiences whenever that is possible so as to remove any power…

I believe it is most important to for a tutor to support the student and meet them at their level, in saying this tutors must prioritise equity over equality and enthusiastically teach students in ways they are most likely to engage and improve from learning. I am very enthusiastic and have a hands-on learning approach with my lessons personalised…

I believe its being the constant support and motivation you need throughout. Most of the times you just want to give up because you are struggling through it but as a teacher i think its important to keep guiding them and supporting them in doing and learning things the way they are comfortable doing it. Be supportive through their work and not judge their questions. Teaching correct thing is really important. A teacher should be inspiring role model. For any tutor, it is important that they set correct example in front of the student, so that along with the regular studies, they can become a responsible person. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to try their very best in every aspect for their student. For example, if a student is struggling, they can change up parts of the lesson to teach them in a way the students find easier to understand. I believe when the tutor is trying their best, the energy is reciprocated by the student as they…

It is to be able to deliver the learnings in a much simpler way that any student can easily understand. Turning a complex problem into simple problem. The most important thing a tutor can do is to help the student recognise their own potential. Alongside teaching them, it is just as important to ensure they realise they are capable of figuring things out on their own too (of course with some support!). The most important thing a tutor can do is unlock previously unknown doors to the student. Most students have a pessimistic approach to math and physics a good tutor can teach according to the students needs and allow the student to overcome their previous prejudice towards difficult topics, eventually making math and physics a fun topic rather…

Enable the student to think in different ways about certain concepts. Get them to create logical ways to solve problems, so its more than just rote learning. It is also important for tutors to instill confidence in their students and create strategies for the students depending on their needs. Being someone who is very successful in maths, I hold…

Inside YurokeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Charlie focused on multiplying algebraic expressions with two brackets and reviewed key skills for working with quadratic equations, including completing the square and finding solutions.

In Year 10, Sophia revised transformations of basic quadratics, tackled quadratic inequalities, and practised using the discriminant to identify equation types.

For Year 11 Chemistry, Lucas covered redox reactions in detail and worked through galvanic cells, reinforcing concepts using exam-style practice questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Chemistry, one student frequently skipped showing full working in calculations and sometimes blurted out answers without writing anything down—"Markers, especially in Year 12, always give marks for students who show their full working out." This meant some errors went unnoticed until feedback was given.

In Year 11 Biology, a learner struggled to keep long answer responses focused and relevant; including unnecessary information cost them clarity during exam preparation.

For a younger primary student, messy or incomplete homework made it hard to track progress with large number addition and subtraction. A missed session due to late arrival from a parent also interrupted learning flow.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Yuroke recently noticed that Georgi now confidently explains each stage of mitosis and meiosis using diagrams—last term she struggled to describe these processes without prompting.

In Year 10 maths, Sid showed new independence by tackling triangle congruence proofs on his own after initially hesitating and needing step-by-step guidance.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student was able to order numbers correctly for the first time after several tries, moving from guessing to reasoning through the process.

Last week, Sid finished his session visibly happier after working out three congruence questions independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Craigieburn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Elevation Secondary College.
