Support, guide, motivate and teach the student until he don't understand. A tutor should get sense of satisfaction after his student gets satisfied. The way I give real life examples on the topic to the students then they don't forget the things till the years. Moreover, the motivation and the worldly-wisdom I give to the students, their mind…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is pose as their mentor than just a teacher. By doing this, a student will feel safe, and empowered; this in turn will make them learn better. Moreover, it is important for a tutor to build their confidence. It is essential to build on the weak areas of a student. Additionally, a…

I think a tutor should be able to tell if their student understands something or not, often they don't say it outright and asking them directly might not get them to admit it. So by asking them to solve a question that indirectly uses the concept might help us figure out if they're having trouble or not. Students should also feel comfortable with…

I feel a tutor must be able to invoke a sense of interest and joy in a students minds for the subject they teach. As a tutor, you are someone who has studied the subject beforehand and are more knowledgeable about the subject than a student who is just starting out. This makes it difficult for tutors to reach their maximum potential while teaching…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student extend beyond academic instruction. While helping students grasp challenging concepts is crucial, equally vital is fostering a supportive and encouraging learning environment. I consider that a tutor should be a good teacher but also a good person. He should be able to communicate and transmit his passion to give the desire to learn. The roll of a tutor is two-fold. Firstly, to help students understand the material they are working with. There are many ways to go about this, but one of the most important roles of a tutor is to be able to bring intuition to the abstract. This in addition to introducing effective methods for solving problems. The second key roll is helping…

Encouraging and patient when explaining concepts to students. Tutors need to provide encouragement as this will build both motivation within the student to do well in a subject, and increase their overall confidence in a difficult topic. I believe setting achievable goals is also an important thing a tutor can do. Patience is also critical, as…

In my opinion, it's most important to help students to understand basic concepts and theories when tutoring them. With these knowledge, students will have confidence to overcome problems and hardness in Maths by themselves. I think the most important thing is to encourage students. When students facing difficulties, they need encouragement; when they successfully solved a question, they need encouragement. The core of encouragement is to give our students confidence. Be able to explain the problem patiently, break down the incomprehensible problem, draw inferences…

Inside AdelaideTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Olivia worked through volumetric analysis revision and tackled an assignment focused on applying chemical calculations.

For Year 11, Daniel reviewed the Sine Rule and Cosine Rule in trigonometry, including practice with area problems for non-right-angled triangles using diagrams to support understanding.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Ava focused on surface area calculations for triangles, cylinders, and rectangles, along with exercises reinforcing perimeter concepts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student tackling trigonometry struggled to apply memorised formulas when graph types changed—"she forgets how to do the questions with similar methods seeing a different graph."

In Year 11, one student's algebra work was neat but skipped writing down steps, hiding sign errors and making feedback hard to act on.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner regularly left times tables revision incomplete and often forgot school materials at home, which slowed maths practice.

For a Year 4 long division task, fatigue set in quickly and mistakes were repeated instead of addressed.

Recent Achievements

Solves problems independently: A Year 11 student who used to hesitate with complex algebra now approaches challenging questions on their own and even brings tricky problems to sessions, showing real initiative.

Another high schooler, previously quiet in class discussions, has started explaining what was learned at school back to the tutor—demonstrating both improved memory retention and a new willingness to engage.

A younger student who often rushed through English work is now forming paragraphs more thoughtfully instead of guessing, and recently finished writing an assignment draft without needing constant reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring
