The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to always be available - whether that is in real life or on the phone. This will allow the student to progress even further in their studies and achieve great results. I believe my…

A tutor should be able to help the student in understanding the information to the best level possible which will increase the confidence in the student especially when doing a subject they do not enjoy or struggle in. A tutor should make learning feel less intimidating and more approachable. They should encourage curiosity, boost confidence, and show students how to think critically. Inside AlbanvaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Ashan focused on calculating unknown angles using rules for straight lines and circles, then planned a TEEL paragraph and introduction for an essay on school uniforms.

Another Year 7 student reviewed complementary and supplementary angles as well as identifying corresponding, alternate, co-interior, and vertically opposite angles, while also practicing debate rebuttals and public speaking.

For Year 10, Steph worked through enzyme function in biology using test questions to prepare for her upcoming SAC, alongside revision of data analysis techniques such as linear regression and median smoothing.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student was observed frequently solving maths problems in his head—especially with algebra and angles—leading to confusion when several steps were needed. As a tutor wrote, "he likes to do calculations in his head, but he's not ready for that yet." This habit meant errors weren't easily spotted or fixed.

In English, he generated strong ideas for persuasive writing but struggled to organize them logically, sometimes "jumping" between points without smooth transitions.

On a senior level, another student hesitated to let the tutor check their work during fractions tasks; this avoidance blocked helpful feedback and slowed improvement.

Recent Achievements

One Albanvale tutor recently noticed a real shift in a Year 7 student's approach to angle problems: after repeatedly mixing up how to label angles, he took on new strategies and now draws and explains them accurately without prompting.

In high school maths, another student who previously glossed over "silly mistakes" began pausing to spot errors himself—he not only corrected his own work but could clearly explain where he went wrong.

Meanwhile, during an English session with a younger learner, the student moved from simply stating opinions to independently structuring a full argument paragraph for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Deer Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Albanvale Primary School.
