I consider encouragement and patience as the most important things a tutor can do for a student. As school can be stressful, being supportive and persistent toward the student is beneficial and can make them more receptive to wanting to learn. Having patience is also very important for tutors as some students may not understand a concept and the…

The most important thing a tutor must do for a student is listening. To me, there's a big difference between listening and hearing someone. Hearing is simply the ability to use your ears. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is that a tutor must be well aware of what he/she is teaching and must be an expert on it. Without this it's a waste of both a student's and teacher's time and money. For this I personally need to get prepared by learning teaching materials and technics at home before I start a lesson. Local Reviews

We joined this month as my teenage daughter needed some confidence building as trying in Maths but needs support with specfic concepts. My daughter has been matched with a fabulous and very reliable university student. Since my first query Ezy Maths has been fantastic at communicating and listening as we feel our feedback is valued. As we always asked and given opportunities to voice our thoughts and general progress in regard to the tutoring process. Totally happy and can only say Ezy Maths makes the tutoring process Ezy :) regards Carmen

Inside AlderleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Angel focused on graph theory concepts, including adjacency matrices, planar graphs with Euler's formula, and explored properties of Eulerian and Hamiltonian graphs.

Year 11 student Melina worked on her assignment by using calculus to ensure two functions connect smoothly at a point—matching values and derivatives—and practiced finding areas under curves with the trapezoidal rule.

For Year 7, Thomas reviewed fractions (comparing and simplifying), tackled improper to mixed conversions, and completed homework on multiplication and division.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Specialist Maths, one student hesitated to start complex problems without support—especially when constructing Activity Networks from Precedence tables—which slowed progress and increased frustration. "He needed a prompt to get going," a tutor noted.

In Year 8, another student often left working out unwritten during algebra tasks, making it harder to identify where errors crept in and undermining feedback use.

Meanwhile, in Year 4 English, messy diagrams and cramped writing made reviewing vowel combinations difficult.

Distractions in senior sessions sometimes meant missed steps or unfinished answers just as exam prep began to ramp up.

Recent Achievements

One Alderley tutor noticed a high school student who used to hesitate when tackling assignments now sets realistic goals for herself and works steadily towards them, often asking questions whenever she's unsure—something she avoided in the past.

Another high schooler, after struggling with revision outside lessons, recently took initiative by identifying a topic he found difficult and brought it up unprompted for extra help.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who previously guessed at answers now sounds out words carefully before spelling them and remembers to apply rules from previous sessions. Last week, she wrote an entire paragraph remembering punctuation without reminders.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Mayeesha is doing a great job with tutoring Joanna. She comes in with such a great attitude to teach. We are blessed to have her.

Sarah is fabulous! Friendly knowledgeable and flexible with times to work in with my child. Very happy with how she is working with my daughter.

I am pleased to say that things are going very well with Tina so far. Tina is organised, confident and already has a good grasp of Olivia's issues and Olivia really likes having her come each week. I look forward to her continued progress.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Grange Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Newmarket State School.
