As a tutor, the ability to get a student invested in the topic they are learning and keep it sustained by making the process an organized effort through active conversations and dialogue is vital in any classroom. Being a student myself, I understand the mindset a student has when trying to mentally grasp a concept and use it to solve problems.…

One of the most important things a tutor can do is instill confidence in their students so they can tackle problems they were previously unfimiliar with on their own, as well as perform in high stress environments, such as tests. The best way to do this in my opinion is to go through practice problems with the students untill they fully…

Show patience and understanding and make the students feel appreciated. It's essential that the student doesn't feel threatened by neither the topic nor the teacher. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is give the student confidence that they can complete problems on their own and be successful in their studies. I remember how disheartening it was when I couldn't understand or effectively answer problems in school. Especially at a younger age, academic success is a value that…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to show them patience and kindness. Learning new things takes time, and it's important to show your students that you are willing to spend that time with them and work with them to achieve their goals no matter how long it takes. I am patient, kind, honest, and extremely reliable. I also…

I think the most important think a tutor can do for a student is teach them to think independently and creatively. A student needs to learn to be able to view things from different perspectives and formulate their own opinions and solutions. I am patient, good at working with children with diverse needs, and I am a creative thinker who can explain…

I think that the most important thing a tutor can do is to teach perseverance and adaptability, because sometimes, the only thing you need to do to learn something new or that you struggle with, is just to change your perspective a little. I think I can inspire others by showing how fun can it be to discover how things works and how everything is…

For me the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand how they feel about the subject or a topic. We must have to guide them and emphasize the importance of the topic by giving them a real life examples and illustrations. I think in that way they will find the subject more interesting. What I can consider as my strength as…

I believe different methods of…

It has to come from my intention to teach and improve the student's quality of life. Without it, teaching will be bland, inauthentic, and forgettable. It also has to come from giving students the ability to think and solve challenging problems by themselves. Without it, the student will not develop independency or grit to solve life's ordeal. One…

Personally, I believe that a good tutor is more than just a teacher; they guide students based on their specific needs. They consider various factors, such as a student's learning style, and tailor their instruction to them. They also instil executive study skills in students, which will benefit them both academically and in life. Being a great…

I always say that the most important thing is being patient. I know that every child is different, so tutors have to adapt to each child and teach children in the appropriate way, since each student understands subjects differently. Teach student life. Being kind human is better than an arrogant genius. I look up to my mentors, who not only taught me skills, but also gave me their thoughts and their experience. I definitely think that there needs to be a solid understanding of the student and the way in which they learn so that the tutor can teach them in a way which is most effective to them. Along with this, I think that the tutor should make the student feel comfortable with them so that they feel free to ask questions or ask for further…

Students can of course vary greatly in their strengths, difficulties and needs. This is true both intrinsically and as a function of development and external context. The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is therefore to diagnose those individual needs, and "meet the student where they are." The essential problem of tutoring…

Local Reviews

We joined this month as my teenage daughter needed some confidence building as trying in Maths but needs support with specfic concepts. My daughter has been matched with a fabulous and very reliable university student. Since my first query Ezy Maths has been fantastic at communicating and listening as we feel our feedback is valued. As we always asked and given opportunities to voice our thoughts and general progress in regard to the tutoring process. Totally happy and can only say Ezy Maths makes the tutoring process Ezy :) regards Carmen

Inside AlderleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Angel focused on graph theory concepts, including adjacency matrices, planar graphs with Euler's formula, and explored properties of Eulerian and Hamiltonian graphs.

Year 11 student Melina worked on her assignment by using calculus to ensure two functions connect smoothly at a point—matching values and derivatives—and practiced finding areas under curves with the trapezoidal rule.

For Year 7, Thomas reviewed fractions (comparing and simplifying), tackled improper to mixed conversions, and completed homework on multiplication and division.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Specialist Maths, one student hesitated to start complex problems without support—especially when constructing Activity Networks from Precedence tables—which slowed progress and increased frustration. "He needed a prompt to get going," a tutor noted.

In Year 8, another student often left working out unwritten during algebra tasks, making it harder to identify where errors crept in and undermining feedback use.

Meanwhile, in Year 4 English, messy diagrams and cramped writing made reviewing vowel combinations difficult.

Distractions in senior sessions sometimes meant missed steps or unfinished answers just as exam prep began to ramp up.

Recent Achievements

One Alderley tutor noticed a high school student who used to hesitate when tackling assignments now sets realistic goals for herself and works steadily towards them, often asking questions whenever she's unsure—something she avoided in the past.

Another high schooler, after struggling with revision outside lessons, recently took initiative by identifying a topic he found difficult and brought it up unprompted for extra help.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who previously guessed at answers now sounds out words carefully before spelling them and remembers to apply rules from previous sessions. Last week, she wrote an entire paragraph remembering punctuation without reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Grange Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Newmarket State School.
