My dream is simple. I want to guide students in a way that goes beyond text books. It's not just about math or science, but the life skills like mindset, the joy of learning, and the art of studying. I believe every tutor should make learning feel a little fun, showing kids that it can be fun and that it isn't boring, which is what is important…

As a student, I've enjoyed classes when they are interactive and fun. We tend to show more interest in the subject if the class is engaging. I'm approachable, observing and identifying each kid to study their character and focus on them in a certain way, keeping the class fun and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is aid them in being confident enough to always attempt a problem. A great tutor helps a student to put aside the "oh no, I don't know what to do" thought or feeling and and least try to break the problem into something they do know how to do. My strengths as a tutor come in my genuine passion…

One of the most important things is to ensure that a tutor is able to make the student comfortable during the lesson. Working in a suitable environment allows the student to perform at a higher performance. This includes bonding with the student and encouraging them whenever possible, providing positive reinforcement. Another important thing is…

The most important thing a tutor can do is being able to explain a concept in a manner which a student can understand. Along with this, I think it is important for a tutor to empower their students, give them confidence, help them reach their goals and improve. Also, to be understanding, patient and flexible with your teaching method, as everyone…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is analyzing them and figuring out their strengths and aspects where they need support the most. By doing so, the tutor can help the student find their potential and reach great heights - both academically and otherwise.. I have always been told that I am good at explaining things,…

The most important I as a tutor can do is to accept that each student has a different way of learning and I should adapt and blend their teaching methods according to the student, there's no one size fits all method for everyone. I completed my schooling and bachelor's in engineering (Computer Science) from India and the education system in India…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is be supportive. Students are already frustrated when they do not understand something, hence we do not need to add to that by being frustrated at them. In addition, a tutor needs to be flexible. This allows one to better tailor the program to the student's needs and the student's strengths. I…

I consider patience and dedication to be the most valuable qualities a tutor can provide. The student needs to feel supported in a learning environment to succeed, especially if it is a subject they aren't particularly strong at. As a former HSC student, I honestly felt the 'tough love' approach some tutors had would deter me from wanting to study…

A tutor can make the student love to learn new things. A tutor can make life easier for a student by showing him/her that acquiring knowledge is very beneficial and important for prospering in life later on. I can explain my ideas in a really easy way. The most important thing a tutor can do is build trust and offer consistent support. A good tutor helps a student feel heard, respected, and capable. I realised that the real challenge often isn't the students' abilities but their engagement with the content. My goal as a tutor is to approach material proactively, sparking curiosity and encouraging students to ask 'why?' and 'how?' instead of passively accepting information at face value. I think the key thing a tutor can do for a student is ensure that their individual learning habits are in order, creating an essential degree of independence. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to give them the confidence and strategies to tackle problems even when you, as a tutor, are not there. Mina has been fantastic, raising my daughter's (yr 8) maths test marks by 20% in the first test after just 3 tutoring sessions....My daughter also feels so much more confident in class, and not so terrified to be asked to answer any questions as she was before.
Coral, Alexandria

Inside AlexandriaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Daniel focused on probability using tree diagrams and completed practice questions on chance, while Year 8 student Mia reviewed angles and worked through problems involving rates and speed.

For Year 11, Lucas tackled a pre-assessment covering algebra basics, taxes and depreciation, as well as graphing techniques and trigonometry concepts like similar triangles and the law of cosines.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7 mathematics, a student often felt overwhelmed by lengthy word problems, saying "I don't know what to do when there's so much info." This led to skipped steps and confusion about which numbers were needed.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student preparing for the HSC left several algebra questions blank on a practice test, not attempting them even though similar types are likely to appear in exams.

In senior maths (Year 12), another student missed easy marks in trigonometry because she didn't read questions thoroughly at first—only correcting errors after they were pointed out mid-session.

Recent Achievements

One Alexandria tutor noted that a Year 10 student, who used to avoid asking questions when stuck, now openly identifies tricky algebra steps and requests clarification before moving on—showing real initiative compared to her earlier hesitancy.

In a recent high school session, another student completed the last set of opportunity test questions and managed to solve half independently for the first time, rather than relying entirely on prompts.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who previously struggled with long division was able to finish all her practice questions without needing any help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Green Square Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Central Sydney Intensive English High School.
