Inside AllenviewTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Alex explored displaying data, focusing on interpreting histograms and discussing topics she found challenging last semester.

For Year 10, revision with Jamie targeted trigonometry concepts and applying relevant formulas in preparation for an upcoming exam.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Alex completed homework on classifying scatterplots, revisited standard deviation by manually using formulas and calculator functions, and discussed a real-life mini assignment analysing fuel consumption efficiency.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12, one student shared missing a passing mark in their test due to "small errors (ie. labelling units and graphs)" and struggled with calculator use for standard deviation—this led to lost marks despite understanding the core concept.

In Year 9, a pattern emerged: when faced with worded algebra problems, another student hesitated at the starting point, unsure how to break questions into steps. As one tutor put it, "he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors."

Meanwhile, a primary student arrived without completed homework and had not memorized times tables; this slowed progress on fractions work.

Recent Achievements

One Allenview tutor noticed Diali, a Year 11 student, now independently uses multiple strategies we've practised—like breaking down worded problems and setting out her work step by step—which she struggled to do last term.

Another high schooler recently identified errors in her own practice exam without prompting, showing new initiative compared to previous sessions where she waited for help.

In a Year 5 session, Alex moved from confusion about scatterplots to not only following the assignment steps but also suggesting valid assumptions during discussion.

Last week, one student finished all assigned fraction homework correctly after needing support just a fortnight ago.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

As an Ezy Math tutor, I was especially confident that I could bring positive results to my students. This was because they gave me a great teaching framework to work within, with which I could incorporate my own methods. My greatest accomplishments working with Ezy Math were without doubt the moments when my students were able to overcome certain learning difficulties to produce excellent results. This was often achievable through a simple reorganisation of their work habits and thinking processes. I would highly recommend Ezy Math tutoring to prospective tutors or clients.

Working for Ezy Math Tutoring was different than I thought it would be. I had tutored privately before and I thought it would be pretty much the same deal, but its really not. Working for Ezy Math was great because, every fortnight I was presented with new ideas or stratergies to help my students and there was always the support and room for feedback in every aspect of the Job. When I applied for the job, I was tossing up the idea of maybe becoming a teacher sometime in my career, and working for Ezy Math has made that decision a lot easier. Tutoring is really one of the most rewarding jobs I can imagine doing, as you can literally see the kids begin to get confident and start to surprise themselves with what they know. I would recommend Ezy Math Tutoring as a very well conducted and professional organisation. I feel that working for Ezy Math was a great experience.

I consider improvements in Maths Test results as my biggest accomplishments while working for EzyMath Tutoring. Whether it be by 10, 20, or 50% improvements it is vital that students strive to a higher standard in both their effort and application to the subject. Students should have goals that are realistic of what they want to achieve in Mathematics. Small goals make a big difference in the overall success in this subject. Whether it be to get a 50% pass mark in the next Mathematics Assessment is much better than getting 43%.  I came to work for the company mainly for the tutoring experience. I have a high school teaching background so it was important for me to branch out into different areas and have a look at more 1 to 1 tutoring which can help develop further my high school teaching career. Tutoring has taught me different teaching strategies that I can implement into the classroom. The Learning Modules in particular was a great resource in reaffirming some of my initial ideas and concepts that I had with the subject. It is a great tool for both tutors and students to be able to understand the complexities in Mathematics and its differentiation from other subjects such as English, History and Science.  I would highly recommend this tutoring company to anyone willing to invest money into making improvements in Mathematics learning. The website is comprehensive and has alot of great resources for both tutors, students, and anyone interested in the subject. The worksheets are a great addition which I have found useful, and would be great use for teachers in the classroom. Overall it has been a positive experience. I believe that we can never stop learning as educators, and it is great to see good people investing alot of time and energy into making teaching and learning in Mathematics more fun, engaging, and innovative.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Scenic Rim Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Woodhill State School.
