A Tutor can change students perception towards study or the subject. I believe its the perception of student towards study / subject which makes it difficult for them to understand it. Once you can successfully change the perception through bringing innovation and interest in study, it becomes very useful for a Student for rest of his life as…

Having the correct materials and being able to supply such materials whenever the students may need it. Also the ability to be flexible, for example if one of my students has a test coming up, I would do everything I can to help them do well. I'm very open-minded and I learn quickly. For example if I make a mistake I am more than happy to be…

A tutor should be knowledgeable to be able to address all concerns of a student and check when unable to immediately answer a query. Additionally a tutor should be easy to talk to, allowing for untrained conversations between student and tutor. Finally, a tutor should be able to motivate their students, ridding them of the disbelief that they…

A tutor will have to quickly work out how he/she can approach the young students, beforehand. He/she may need to understand the weakness of students and then the need to improve their study. Mixing well with the students in order to build up their confidence will help your next steps. He/she will always give positive feedback and encouragement…

Whilst ensuring the student learns or develops topics/skills is important, fostering an interest and curiosity in the subject is more important in my opinion. Through the support of teachers and students in my schooling I have grown a deep interest in maths, science and literature, which makes study and learning these subjects easy! I am patient,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is actually listen to what they want. Although it may seem obvious, many tutors I've had in the past have not been beneficial as they only teach what they desire. By actually addressing the specific needs of students, I believe a tutor can make it most beneficial for students I feel that,…

I think the most important thing we can do as tutors is to encourage them and also push them to the best of their abilities. We should promote values like to keep trying and not give up so easily. My strength is that I am able to identify the learning issues/habits in my students and I am able to point it out. I think it is important to tackle…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to recognize one's inclination towards a particular subject, sport and encourage/guide the student in a proper way. I can give a lot of examples while teaching any subject, I can be firm while teaching but not in a strict way and also can be convincing the students about the importance of…

In my perspective, an overall environment plays most crucial role for student. Tutor should be friendly with the student. Tutor should have great command on his/her particular subject. I think the tutor should understand what a student's basics are and what he initially knows about the topic. He can try to ask him if he/she doesn't understand the things which were taught. The tutor should be able to motivate the student and make sure learning is not a burden and it's all about enjoying the subjects which he has too. As a tutor,…

I believe patience is important as everyone learns and works at a different pace so being able to cope with that is important. Moreover, it is crucial that a tutor is open-minded and non-judgemental as the concept of learning is different for everyone. Further, a tutor should be organized and behave professionally to set out the aura of a good…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is buiding their confidence and enjoyment of a subject that they perhaps once struggled with. I believe that if a student comes into a tutoring session each day begrudgingly with absolute hatred of a subject they won’t absorb what is being taught as well because they’d rather be somewhere…

I believe that ultimately, helping students to achieve better grades in school is the most important thing, because that's what tutors are hired for. Local Reviews

Haven't looked back, ezy maths has really propelled my child as far as her grades at school. Our maths Tutor has been fantastic. My child felt comfortable with him from the beginning and has been broadening and strengthening her knowledge ever since. With regular feedback from Tutor you feel you are always in the loop in relation to child's development.
Mary, Altona

Inside AltonaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Madison focused on similar triangles and practiced trigonometry and Pythagoras' Theorem with exam-style questions, while also exploring compound interest as part of a class validation task.

In Year 10, Liam worked on consolidating his skills in applying Pythagoras to worded problems and using trigonometric ratios to find unknown side lengths in triangles.

Meanwhile, another Year 10 student, Ella, covered bearings in trigonometry and revisited measurement concepts including volume and surface area calculations.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student, when solving worded trigonometry problems, tended to avoid writing out steps and key words, making it harder to spot where misunderstandings occurred. This meant errors often went unnoticed until review time.

In Year 8 algebra, over-reliance on the calculator for identifying gradients in linear functions led to confusion about core concepts; as one tutor put it, "he could find the answer but struggled to explain how he got there."

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student often forgot to bring completed homework, leaving gaps in practice that slowed progress with times tables and division tasks.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Altona noticed that a Year 9 student, after initially hesitating to ask for help, began actively seeking clarification on trigonometric ratios and then independently solved for unknown side lengths using SIN, COS, and TAN.

Another high school student who used to skip steps with linear graphs is now confidently plotting points and explaining the meaning of rise over run without prompting—she even developed her own summary sheet for an upcoming SAC.

In primary, one student who would guess times tables has started working them out aloud step by step, moving from 10×3 backwards and discovering new patterns on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Altona Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Mary's School.
