I think that if a tutor can initially convince their student why what they’re studying is important, then the relationship will be much more amicable. I also think it’s important that we make sure they’re really understanding key concepts, rather than making it seem like they do to avoid embarrassment around or working harder, I have seen…

Be patient and understanding and realise that each student has different needs, and that the best way to help each student is to alter the tutoring experience to they needs. Additionally being clear with the student of what their goals are from the beginning and reassuring and instilling confidence in them that they can achieve them. I think my…

A tutor should be patient and should be able to accomodate oneself with the students. The main aim of the tutor should be to suit to the needs of the child. I always say that the most important thing is being patient. I know that every child is different, so tutors have to adapt to each child and teach children in the appropriate way, since each student understands subjects differently. I am a young person, so I am able to understand a child in many situations. I am aware of mental health and the…

Inside AnnerleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Chloe practised converting fractions to percentages and explored how climate change impacts our environment, including ways to reduce waste.

In Year 10, Morgan focused on applying integration techniques to solve problems involving position, velocity, and acceleration, as well as analysing feedback for her maths PSMT assignment.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Alex worked through the rules for differentiating trigonometric functions using the chain rule and product rule, then applied these methods to a range of practice questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly arrived without her school book or resources, leaving her easily confused about what she had or had not learnt in class, and unable to clarify concepts for assignments.

In Year 12 Chemistry, a lack of practice identifying oxidising and reducing agents meant that she needed more time to balance equations independently.

Messy written work and unstructured answers in Year 8 Maths led to confusion and avoidable mistakes; as noted, work formatting still needs a lot of improvement.

In Year 4, inconsistent focus during times tables revision resulted in forgotten basics after missed sessions, making it harder to regain confidence.

Recent Achievements

One Annerley tutor noticed a big change in a Year 10 student who now starts sessions by sharing exactly where she's confused, rather than waiting for hints—last month, she rarely spoke up.

In Year 12 maths, Morgan recently solved go-cart track equations on her own after the tutor modelled one example; before this, she'd needed step-by-step help for each section.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student has started sounding out tricky spelling words independently and checks unfamiliar meanings herself instead of guessing. At the end of her session, she read the next chapter out loud without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

My daughter Jasmine has been tutored by Thomas Ban in maths for the past few years. She recently was accepted into the gifted and talented class for year 7 at Stella Maris and also received an "Outstanding" grade (highest grade possible) for Maths this year. We just wanted to thank Thomas Ban for the wonderful work he has done with Jasmine this year. We feel that she has received these grades due to Thomas tutoring. He has challenged and pushed her to work harder and improve her maths. He is also extremely professional and courteous.

Aryo is very happy with Brittany and looking forward to see her which is a good start !

I am confident that Mandeep's approach is just what Hugo and Havier need to lift their confidence and capabilities to be the best they can be.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Annerley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Junction Park State School.
