No matter which subject the student is learning, s/he needs to know why s/he needs to learn it. Recently, Diane Tavenner, the innovator of American education encourages students to learn whatever they want by asking them to solve problem by themselves. In the field of applied linguistics, we call it 'boost input by producing output'. I believe…

One of the most crucial things, which a tutor can do to benefit a student is to create a learning space that has a good atmosphere with support and understanding. This enables them to construct their competence and enthusiasm in the discipline, which is imperative for their success. My greatest assets include a steady demeanour as well as the…

It is so important for tutors to adapt their method of teaching to the way the student learns. Every student not only has different needs and difficulties, but learns concepts differently. It is extremely important to regularly re-evaluate the student's objectives. Modifying your approach as a tutor to make the student feel comfortable and…

If the student is struggling with stress or work loads, I will help the student mentally and academically at all times. I will ensure the student understands every concept by providing practice papers and answering questions outside of tutoring session times as well…

I think the most important thing as a tutor you need to be honest, be flexible, be patient, be a good listener, teach the student how to learn. I believe tutors fill a different role than teachers and parents, and that puts them in a unique position to support students. Personal relationships are foundational to student success -- the more…

If it's a correct match of a student and a teacher, then definitely a tutor can change the overall personality of his student and in turn learn from him as well. It's not only about grades and positions but about life changing lessons that a tutor can give to his students. I am dedicated and true to my students, and according to me this is the…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to show the student that through perseverance they can be good at the subject, and to appreciate the subject's content for what it is. Another important feature is instilling confidence in the student as that is a skill that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. I am currently…

It is most important that a tutor doesn't give up on their students. This means not only continuing teaching the student but also means that the tutor should always believe a student can improve with their guidance. In addition, it is essential for a tutor to be able to learn the student's strengths and weaknesses and their way of thinking, so the…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to instill confidence and inspire a student's curiosity for the subject. This comes from clear explanations in class, well-prepared lessons and patience from a tutor so that students can learn and gain confidence in a subject at their own pace. The tutor should be reliable, and help them unleash their potential. Students should learn that they are able to do things on their own, hence a tutor should also be encouraging. I think enthusiasm is important - I have found in my own studies that when someone isn't enthusiastic about what they are teaching, it can easily dampen one's own ability to take on information. As i mentioned, being patient and encouraging is key to making students feel confident in their learning. Finally, being organised so that when the lesson…

I think it's really important for a tutor to offer intrinsic motivation to a student. I find that alot of students are easily academically discouraged. A tutor can provide mentoring and perspective for a student. Tutoring in my opinion is more effective than lecturing as the student gets more individual attention. Inside ArtarmonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Josh worked through HSC physics exam questions focused on electromagnetism and the photoelectric effect, with extra practice on mass defect calculations.

In Year 11, Priya tackled circular functions by sketching graphs, finding x-intercepts, and using unit circle values for exact results.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Alex addressed exponential growth and decay problems along with probability applications involving combinations and permutations.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Physics, a student's long-answer responses often lacked clarity and technical terms—need to slowly incorporate more technical terms in physics long answers and be more succinct, as one tutor observed. This resulted in answers that were harder to mark and sometimes missed key points.

Meanwhile, in Year 12 Mathematics, over-reliance on the CAS calculator for routine algebra ("try to avoid over-reliance on CAS") meant foundational steps weren't always written out or understood, leading to small but costly algebraic mistakes during exams.

In both subjects, skipping explicit working made it difficult to identify where errors crept in under time pressure.

Recent Achievements

One Artarmon tutor noted a Year 11 student who, after previously losing marks for incomplete explanations in physics tests, now writes much more structured and coherent answers—recently scoring higher by clearly linking calculations to concepts.

A Year 10 student who once hesitated to tackle graph sketching questions now confidently completes derivative-based problems and even volunteers to try extra examples during sessions.

Meanwhile, a younger student made a noticeable shift: rather than just following along, she set up her own diagrams when working through force identification tasks, showing real independence as she finished all required examples without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Oscar is finding the tutoring very helpful in realizing he is able to "do maths". He is feeling a lot more positive in general at this time and we hope that the gradual improvement he makes will continue to provide a source of self belief and positive thinking. He is very comfortable working with Kirsty and is keen to continue with her.

I initially chose to work for EzyMath tutoring so that I could earn some extra money while attending university. The company most appealed to me with its flexible hours, and a clear idea of letting the tutor be in control of his own work. You could work as many hours as you wanted, and truly develop a personal relationship with your clients. The weekly modules provided by EzyMath ensured that I myself developed and learned along the way. For me, the greatest accomplishment was the transition into a fully coordinated and confident tutor in a manner of weeks. EzyMath truly turned me into a successful tutor who had a great relationship with his students. It was especially amazing to see that the people I taught were even a little upset when I could no longer continue working. Overall, I definitely recommend working for the company to any people who want to mature into successful tutors. Any parents who want their children to learn in a friendly yet structured environment; as well as working with someone who they can truly rely on should definitely contact EzyMath tutoring! I'm very grateful for this experience and all you help. Good luck to the company for all of its future endeavours.

Things are going well. No issues and Jacob is going into class with more confidence.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Artarmon Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Artarmon Public School.
