Inside AscotTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Zane worked on maths operations, focusing on order of operations and addition/subtraction, as well as English comprehension with an emphasis on responding in full sentences to assess understanding.

For Year 8, one student tackled solving linear equations and practiced conclusion writing alongside reading comprehension tasks.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student revised Pythagoras' theorem and linear equations in maths, while also learning how to write research findings in their own words for English.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student was unable to review a recent test as it had been misplaced, which limited targeted feedback on algebra and graphing skills—"I was hoping to take a look at the previous test but we were unable to find it."

In Year 9 maths, workbooks showed rushed layout and incomplete written working, making sign errors in fractions harder to spot.

For a Year 7 English task, missed homework meant new spelling words weren't learned that week.

Meanwhile, a younger student became easily flustered when learning new concepts, causing them to lose focus before lesson's end.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ascot recently noticed a Year 10 student who had struggled with worded maths problems now approaching them with more independence, pausing to identify key information before starting—a big change from previous sessions where he would wait for hints.

In a senior English session, another student overcame her nerves about class presentations by rehearsing out loud and then volunteering to present first at school, something she'd always avoided.

Meanwhile, a younger learner who used to guess at spelling words is now asking for clarification and getting almost all of them right during weekly checks.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Thank you for your email. Ben and David are working well together and it appears that the working relationship is positive. Interestingly, Ben has instantly been able to move to working with David as both David and Ben have in common the same secondary school that Ben is currently going to. So while David attended the school some years prior to Ben, and much has change, they were still able to compare experiences about the school which helped start them working constructively. We are very satisfied with continuing with David.

Yes so far we are happy with Emma. The reason we want the tutoring is that I would like Stephanie to be extended in a similar way to that which coaching colleges follow ie they seem to follow the curriculum of selective schools. I would like Stephanie to have the same opportunity to be extended. Since the coaching colleges are inconvenient for us, we much prefer to have a tutor like Emma.

Tanay enjoys learning with Curtis which is a great thing so I am sure he will listen to what Curtis has to tell him.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bendigo Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Epsom Primary School.
