I believe that every student is equally capable to achieve highest of the grades, I feel it is very important to first totally trust in the student's abilities and capabilities and also let the student know about the trust I have in them, I would try to notice their strengths and weaknesses by first asking them about their favorite/ least favorite…

I think that helping a student understand the basic concept of what they are learning to ensure that they have a strong foundation for future learning. This may lead to a new appreciation for the subject matter. As well as ensuring that no student remains behind their year level to develop more nuanced future adults. I believe that I am able to…

Never get angry at a student for asking the same question repeatedly. They are asking because we have not done a good enough job in explaining to them. So we must be patient and ensure we explain as clear as possible. It also very important for a tutor to encourage and motivate students. Sometimes students say they want to give up but we must…

Based on my experience, adopting a step-by-step approach that emphasizes understanding is the most effective way to teach concepts. Additionally, providing students with well-prepared notes and practice exercises is incredibly beneficial for their learning. I am patient with students because I understand that every student learns at their own pace…

I think the most important aspect as a tutor is to listen to the student and foster independence. They should be able to ask as many questions as possible and make them think and learn about problem solving. I think there are a lot of qualities that go into being a good tutor. A few of the most important skills for the field are patience and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is giving them the support they need, and pushing them to reach their limits at times. My strength as a tutor is my knowledge and my communication skills. I have studied and gained many achievements throughout my high school. I firmly believe that making student's confident about the subject is the most important thing. A tutor is someone who guides the student to the solution also letting the student explore the new entities. It is not like providing the question and the answer at the same time. A tutor must be able to win the heart of the student so the student loves…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to foster a genuine understanding of the subject, build their confidence, and cultivate a positive attitude toward learning. It’s essential to encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills, rather than just giving answers, so they can become more independent learners.…

The capacity to communicate in such a way that the learner feels driven, excited, and confident in their ability to master and enjoy whatever challenges come along is one of the most crucial personal attributes of a competent instructor. The most important thing I can do for a student is to permanently change the outlook a student has on a subject. If my students can go from viewing e.g. maths as a boring and tedious subject to viewing it as fun and rewarding, I'm succeeding in my mission as a tutor. I am good at making personal connections and introducing novel ways to approach…

I believe, in today's world, the tutors role is changing quickly. With tons of free education material available online, a tutor must provide personal touch for students and improve their learning rate. A tutors job is to make his/her students grasp that knowledge without having to go through the grind of looking for good material. A tutor must…

Inside Aspendale GardensTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Jack focused on multiplying and dividing fractions as well as adding mixed fractions with different denominators, using step-by-step worked examples.

For Year 10, Maya revised factorising general trinomials—including perfect squares and difference of squares—while also learning to solve quadratics using the discriminant.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Alex worked through physics questions on electromagnetism and electricity, applying concepts to practice problems in preparation for an upcoming test.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, a student often tried to complete all steps mentally, leading to errors in balancing equations; as the tutor noted, "he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors."

In VCE Physics, a Year 12 struggled to recall electromagnetism formulas unless directly prompted and didn't maintain a list for revision—this slowed problem-solving during practice.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner with strong verbal ideas found it challenging to translate thoughts into written work during story writing tasks.

A recurring theme across several grades was incomplete mastery of times tables, which led to calculation slips in both primary and senior maths.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Aspendale Gardens recently saw a Year 11 student, who previously hesitated with polynomial long division, quickly learn to apply the method and explain why it's useful—all within one session.

In a Year 9 session, a student who often guessed through factorisation questions started asking clarifying questions instead and managed to solve quadratic trinomials independently for the first time.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who used to rush through reading aloud now pauses at harder words and self-corrects before moving on, showing new care and accuracy when tackling unfamiliar vocabulary.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Dingley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Aspendale Gardens Primary School.
