I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence while helping them understand the subject. When a student feels supported and encouraged, they become more willing to ask questions, take risks, and engage with the material. I believe that a tutor should not only explain concepts clearly but also create a…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, of course apart from being thorough in the subject matter they are teaching, is also to be very empathetic towards the student. A tutor must be able to put themselves in the student's shoes to comprehend the difficulties they are facing. I believe that everyone will love a subject if it is…

A tutor should be able to answer any questions the student throws at them and should not limit the student's imagination in any way, and should correct the student in a way the student doesn't get hurt and doesn't repeat the mistake. I think that the methods I use will help students understand the subject easily without confusing them and I…

The biggest things a student can have their tutor do are to make the student feel assured, adapt their learning style to the student's, and demystify hard concepts. A student was struggling with algebra and felt discouraged. My goal was to help him understand the concepts and build their confidence. So, I broke down the problems into simple…

Inside Aspendale GardensTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Jack focused on multiplying and dividing fractions as well as adding mixed fractions with different denominators, using step-by-step worked examples.

For Year 10, Maya revised factorising general trinomials—including perfect squares and difference of squares—while also learning to solve quadratics using the discriminant.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Alex worked through physics questions on electromagnetism and electricity, applying concepts to practice problems in preparation for an upcoming test.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, a student often tried to complete all steps mentally, leading to errors in balancing equations; as the tutor noted, "he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors."

In VCE Physics, a Year 12 struggled to recall electromagnetism formulas unless directly prompted and didn't maintain a list for revision—this slowed problem-solving during practice.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner with strong verbal ideas found it challenging to translate thoughts into written work during story writing tasks.

A recurring theme across several grades was incomplete mastery of times tables, which led to calculation slips in both primary and senior maths.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Aspendale Gardens recently saw a Year 11 student, who previously hesitated with polynomial long division, quickly learn to apply the method and explain why it's useful—all within one session.

In a Year 9 session, a student who often guessed through factorisation questions started asking clarifying questions instead and managed to solve quadratic trinomials independently for the first time.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who used to rush through reading aloud now pauses at harder words and self-corrects before moving on, showing new care and accuracy when tackling unfamiliar vocabulary.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I have got to say that Miles is absolutely perfect. Besides being prompt and all that, his explanations are so good that Roland shares them with his school friends to enable them to understand tricky concepts in class. They inevitably will say “Oh, I understand now!” He is making Maths Methods manageable.

So far we are very happy with our classes I am sure as we progress jacob will start to see the improvements

Jillian is a wonderful, dedicated and reliable tutor A grade. Thank you Jillian
