I believe the most important thing a tutor can provide a student with is the confidence in themselves that is needed to accomplish what they dream. By explaining things in a way which makes sense to each individual student they are equipped with the tools they require to get where they want to be in life. My ability to explain concepts in a way…

You have to inspire the students to want to learn and understand, this is something my high school teachers did to me which has taken me so far in my academic career already. The most important thing a tutor can do is to inspire confidence and foster a sense of curiosity and self-motivation in their students. Encouraging a love for learning and empowering them to tackle challenges independently is invaluable. I'd say my ability to explain complex ideas in a clear and understandable way is one of my strengths. I strive…

One of the most important things would be to develop a safe and supportive environment for a student such that he/she is able to willingly clarify any doubts they have. I am open-minded and quite friendly. With my previous students, I have been able to build a good repertoire and trust between us. I am also more than willing to share any…

I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be understanding of the student and the student's circumstances and best adapt to the student's schedule and learning method. I think that the tutor must learn to adapt to how the student studies and learns and try to find the best method or technique that will help the…

The most important thing is to understand the students misconceptions and how to correct the cause of that misconception. To ensure that their fundamental knowledge is corrected before pursuing more complex tasks. It is also essentially to show empathy and respect so they may respect you back and try their best for you. While having a strong foundational knowledge of the subjects is important, I believe communication skills, patience and a drive to learn is what makes a good tutor. As a tutor, you have to have an abundance of patience because you are trying to assist with a concept they have previously struggled with, and hence may have convinced themselves they…

The actual academics itself, while being at the core of the tutoring, is not the most valuable aspect. From my experience, most students do not have the care or respect for their instructors, and mutual respect in particular is essential, because mutual trust is otherwise close to impossible for many people. You must find a balance between being…

I believe a tutor's duty is not to necessarily improve the intellectual capability of their client, but rather, guide them in a way that allows them to harness their own learning potential through customised, carefully tailored programs specific to the individual. Whilst this may not necessarily be viable for every circumstance, it is the role of…

Dakshi has been a wonderful tutor and if she is available next year we would love to have her back.
Lara

Inside Bahrs ScrubTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Zara focused on statistics, specifically calculating mean, median, mode, and range using real assignment data.

For Year 8, Lily practiced algebraic expressions and worked through problems involving solving equations for x.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student James revised logarithmic equations by applying log rules and converting square roots to powers, then moved onto expanding polynomials with the FOIL method for deeper exam preparation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student did not complete their assigned maths homework or make any attempts at a major assignment, which left them unsure how to start questions independently.

In Year 8, over-reliance on previous examples was noted: "he kept looking at the previous examples we did together before attempting new questions," which slowed progress in rounding and multiplication.

For a senior student, missing communication with teachers while away meant uncertainty about key assessment tasks.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student's distraction during online sessions made it difficult to focus long enough to master division, leading to unfinished content each lesson.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Bahrs Scrub noticed a Year 11 student who used to hesitate with statistics now identifying her own mistakes and explaining how she fixed them, instead of waiting for hints.

In Year 8, one student who often guessed quietly during algebra is now asking questions out loud and double-checking her reasoning—she even completed all her assigned problems without needing reminders.

Meanwhile, two Year 4 students who previously rushed through addition and subtraction are now pausing to check their answers and insist on finishing sums independently before showing the tutor, reflecting a real boost in self-reliance.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Both my sons, were tutored by Adam. We were very happy with his work. John has now finished school and is in his second year at University where he doing very well. We stopped seeing Adam when Paul started to get A+ marks in Maths and did not require extra support. Paul will finish Year 12 this year and we are told by his school that he should receive excellent marks. We were impressed with the communication between ourselves and your team.

Patrick is a wonderful asset to your company.  It pleases me so much that Patrick has a wonderful understanding of my Son capabilities with in only 5 lessons. Thank you for sending Patrick to us.

Mike has been great and very patient with Chelsea.  Most importantly Chelsea is feeling comfortable with him and starting to open up and ask questions. He is also very organised and we are really happy.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Beenleigh Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Windaroo Valley State High School.
