The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make whatever they feel to be insurmountable, into something that is really quite simple. it is to make them not lose interest in studies but instead invigorate their passion in it. I have been told that i am adept at tailoring my tutoring for different learning styles and needs. I do not…

I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make that student interested in what they are learning. Although students may not enjoy every aspect of what they're learning, if they can find even one thing that they enjoy, this could be enough. I am patient, determined, and kind to those that I tutor. So, I think that…

Encourage them to pursue their dreams. Teach them to be lifelong learners. I believe you have completely understood the concept when you can simplify it entirely. So, the student should totally grasp the concepts at hand. A tutor can help the student realize their passions, and help them achieve it. Making the students interested in the subject by…

The most important thing a tutor can do is be encouraging and have faith in the student. Personally, when I used to have tutors, I performed the best when they reiterated, “you can do it! it’s not about the brain you were born with, it’s about how far you’re willing to go in terms of dedication and hard work,†and that stuck with me.…

Be understanding and empower them. IF they are struggling, the ability to stop them from being frustrated or minimize it is the most important skill other than being good at explaining concepts. And empowering a student to make them believe they can accomplish what they want is the goal of tutoring. I'm very calm so when they seem to be struggling…

According to me the most important thing for the tutor is to understand that not all students understand concepts the same way and sense when students do not understand something and willingly try another approach of presenting the material to help the student. With this approach a tutor can make a difference in the student’s learning. I believe…

The most important thing that a tutor can do at first, is build a rapport and a relationship of trust. In order to connect with a student, a tutor must be able to forge a strong connection that is much the same as a mentor to a younger generation. Further from this, a tutor must be able to assess the genuine ability of a student - this is crucial,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is believe in them and their abilities. For many students it is often their lack of belief in themselves that holds them back from fully trying to understand the topic. Building this and building their confidence is key. A tutor is not just only someone who's there to help with homework questions, but more importantly questions outside the classroom. I believe a tutor should go out of their way to make sure the student understands the content, rather than teach the general content and move on, because the students and their learning are the priority in my opinion. Inside BanksmeadowTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Ghazal focused on working with fractions, decimals, and percentages, as well as refining her history journal writing by gathering information and crafting concise responses.

In Year 10, Sam tackled trigonometric identities and practised applying these to solve a range of problems.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Jack worked through advanced differentiation techniques including the chain rule, product rule, and quotient rule using exam-style questions for consolidation.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 mathematics, one student struggled with time management during problem sets—"she took a while to remember the formula," leading to incomplete answers under exam conditions.

For a Year 11 extension maths student, over-reliance on notes was evident when working through calculus application questions; missing formula recall slowed progress and led to hesitation with unfamiliar content.

In English (Year 10), another student depended heavily on online resources for grammar and punctuation rather than self-correcting, which made written responses less coherent.

In each case, moments of uncertainty or avoidance left gaps in understanding that showed up most sharply in timed tasks or independent writing.

Recent Achievements

One Banksmeadow tutor noted that Lucy, a Year 12 student, now approaches challenging calculus and trigonometry questions independently—last month she would leave difficult problems unfinished, but this week she worked through trial paper questions on her own, correcting previous mistakes.

In a recent high school session, Ruby shifted from hesitating on algebraic inequalities to solving extension questions confidently and even asked for extra practice problems without prompting.

Meanwhile, Bas in Year 4 has started using pen-and-paper strategies for multiplication and division before reaching for the calculator—a big step up from his earlier guesswork—and finished all assigned word problems accurately.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mascot Library (incl. the George Hanna Memorial Museum)—or at your child's school (with permission), like Banksmeadow Public School.
