I think the most important thing for a tutor to do is to help instil confidence in a student, by walking through problems step by step until the student reaches a sense of understanding, and of wanting to learn more, as well as having the confidence to ask questions and clarify their knowledge. I have strong subject knowledge and the ability to…

Give the student the passion to further their studies. I believe my engineering background is a major strength as a tutor. This is because I have seen how maths can be applied in real-life applications. This will allow me to teach mathematics in a more practical manner than it is typically taught and therefore give the students a more enjoyable…

Aside from attempting to push the students academic abilities to new heights, I believe that a tutor can provide valuable insight regarding life as a whole. Such as being able to transfer the skills acquired in solving mathematical equations, to solving problems in real life. My key strengths would be that I believe I can explain concepts which…

Knowing a student and modelling his learning plan accordingly addressing his concerns. Give positive messages. Students require somebody to encourage them in a genuine manner, to make them understand that it’s ok to fail sometimes but worth trying. Coordinated effort amongst parents and tutors is completely vital to a student’s prosperity.…

It is important to understand that not all students are on the same level, hence you must find ways that work for them individually. By doing so, they are thought more effectively There are tons of strengths which a tutor can hold, however there are certain ones which include Patience Understanding Expressive knowledge These strengths are…

I believe that the most important things one can do as a tutor for a student are building their confidence and fostering a true understanding of the subject. It's not just about getting the right answers but teaching them how to approach independent problems. Curiosity and critical thinking are crucial because it allows students to take on…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not force them into studying and to not put too much pressure on them to understand a certain topic. I believe that I can teach them in a way I have been taught and make them understand a certain problem easily. And even if I fail to make them understand I study the problem…

I think the most important thing is being able to share the knowledge, not just about school subjects, but also the knowledge gained from experiences and mistakes. The most important thing I can do is continuously adapt to a student’s evolving learning needs. Students are at a crucial stage of cognitive development, and their understanding can shift from one lesson to the next. A tutor must assess their learning style in every session, adjusting explanations and approaches accordingly. What worked well in…

Inside Bankstown AerodromeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ali focused on rates and ratios, applying these to real-world problems, and reviewed algebraic equations using step-by-step examples.

Year 11 student Sarah completed a mock exam covering sketching polynomials and basic graph transformations, then practiced simple permutation and combination questions.

Meanwhile, Year 3 student Mia worked on telling time with phrases like 'to' and 'past', alongside drawing analogue clocks for practice.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student's algebra working was described as "messy at times," making it hard to track logic, which impeded understanding and error checking.

A Year 11 student skipped steps in trigonometry proofs and later forgot the approach—"he tends to forget things I teach him (ie. tan/sin/cos)." This recurring omission of steps leads to confusion and loss of method retention.

In Year 10, a rushed approach to graphing led to scratchy lines and confusion when checking answers, undermining accuracy and self-verification.

A Year 8 student avoided drawing diagrams for geometry, leading to longer solution times and increased difficulty visualizing problems.

One senior student's time management faltered on tests; his illegible working "would mark him down for not being able to understand work."

Recent Achievements

One Bankstown Aerodrome tutor noticed a Year 11 student who, after initially struggling with polynomial division, began identifying trends in the questions and now completes homework independently.

In a recent session with a Year 8 student, the tutor saw a real shift: she started asking for help when unsure about domain and range problems, rather than staying quiet as before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who used to hesitate over reading passages is now pronouncing words with silent letters more accurately and answering comprehension questions without prompting. Last week, he finished an entire set of tricky maths word problems on his own.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Joshua feels comfortable with Linh so far, which is fantastic. His teaching skills are impressive! Very happy so far...

Eddy is really happy with Amy! I am so pleased to advise he has quickly built a rapport with her and has been really positive following their tutoring sessions.

My son and myself are greatly satisfied with the work that Jacqualine is putting forth to my son Tyler, he looks forward to every session. Jacqueline is professional, explains the following subjects until my son grasps on but also makes learning enjoyable. Not only myself by Tyler's teacher has seen an improvement with his confidence when completing a math's task at school. I believe we are in the process of having Tyler's teacher also liaise with Jacqueline to make this process a easier transition.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Panania Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Condell Park High School.
