The biggest thing a tutor can do is create a urge or love for the subject. I will only have limited amount of time with them, so creating self motivation will help them be better. Most students who score very high marks most often love te subject which causes them to work harder without realising it because it is not hard work but it becomes fun…

Being friendly and open-minded to the student's needs is a must. If a student is not comfortable with the way a tutor acts then progress is very unlikely. A tutor must also be able to talk with the student, not just at them. Transforming questions and answers into discussions can help solidify the student's thinking process, and assist them to do…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to build confidence, provide clarity, and guide students strategically. A good tutor helps students truly understand content rather than just memorise it, showing them how to think, structure responses, and approach exams with purpose. Just as importantly, a tutor should create a supportive…

As part of my previous tutoring experience, I believe that it is important to provide regular updates about the student's progress to both the student and their parents. This helps to build a sense of assurance and certainty about the academic pathway of the student and being able to identify and strengths and weaknesses of the student. I also…

Patience is really one of the key players that should take part when tutoring a student. The time and effort one should invest in a student will really play a massive role in making gradual changes for the student naturally leading to a greater milestone in their learning process. Showing empathy is another factor. Having the ability to understand…

A tutor should assess a student's strengths, weaknesses, and learning style to tailor their approach accordingly. Tutors should continually assess a student's progress and adjust their teaching accordingly. Encouragement and positive reinforcement are crucial for boosting a student's confidence. A good tutor can help a student believe in…

I believe that a tutor should foremost, teach their student to learn to love the subject. They should show their passion through their teaching so that their student will feel the same way about the subject. A tutor should be persistent, they should find different methods to teach their student if they do not grasp the topic well. They should also…

Take there time and be patient with the student because every student is different and the method in which you teach a concept may work for one student but not necessarily all students. So it is important to be able to teach a concept in many different ways and methods to ensure all students are able to understand and capture the idea. I feel I am…

While a tutor can't promise perfect results or guarantee the fulfilment of specific goals, they can certainly assist students in achieving them. A tutor provides guidance and assistance…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build confidence. When students believe in their abilities, they’re more willing to engage with the material, take risks, and ask questions. Confidence can transform a student’s approach to learning, making them more resilient in the face of challenges. By providing support,…

It is important for a tutor to provide academic guidance to students which align with the goals of each individual student. Inside BeaconsfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Stella focused on solving simultaneous equations using both elimination and substitution methods, as well as reviewing measurement questions involving parabolas.

For Year 10, Maddie worked through integer operations in Chapter 1A and practised applying rules for adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers.

Meanwhile, Year 7 student Alex completed a diagnostic assessment covering decimals, integers (both positive and negative), fractions, BODMAS (order of operations), and basic area and volume calculations.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, he skipped showing steps in equations, which hid sign errors—this made it tough to spot where logic went off track and slowed correction.

A Year 11 student leaned heavily on mental calculations for polynomial division but left little written working; this caused confusion when revisiting the problem or checking for mistakes.

In Year 6, messy long division layout led to redoing several lines after mixing up remainders.

Another senior student avoided reviewing feedback on a completed application problem, so similar setup errors kept recurring during practice. Frustration set in as solutions seemed just out of reach.

Recent Achievements

One Beaconsfield tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to rely on a "shortcut" for simultaneous equations now confidently uses both elimination and substitution methods, even checking answers independently instead of waiting for guidance.

In Year 8 maths, a student who once hesitated with fraction calculations now solves multiplication and division of fractions accurately and even simplifies before working out answers—a big shift from earlier confusion.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student recently started trying questions without giving up at the first hurdle; last week he finished an entire set of perimeter problems after initially struggling to understand the questions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bunjil Place Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Haileybury College - Berwick Boys.
