A tutor can teach according to the need of a student which is not possible in a class. Even a child can tell his or her weakness frankly which they can't express in the class I start from the basic. I teach according to the need of a child. I can teach the same concept number of times until the child understands. I can teach all the types of…

I think, its a tutor's responsibility in helping the student to understand their inner potential by suggesting ways to broaden their skill sets, pushing their boundary to convey that there is much to learn in life. Other than being a punctual and effective educator, I am flexible by allowing my students to learn in their own phase. It makes them…

I have rarely ever used the same method of explaining a concept/theory on multiple students. It is really important for tutors to understand the needs and abilities of their students in order to maintain progress. It is also crucial for tutors to have time-management and resourceful qualities in order to ensure academic development in students.…

The most important thing is identifying strengths, weaknesses and comfort zone of the student. The teacher in the comfort zone of student should help student work on his weaknesses and help the student identify his own strengths/passion and help him pursue it. This can also be summarized in a saying by a famous poet khalil Gibran on…

A tutor can show students how challenging questions are done and prepare them well for their exams/tests. Plus, encourage them to put in their full potential to score well in exams. I am free to explain any concept, numerous times until the student has really understood. My job is to make sure they know what they are actually doing. I try to give…

It is important to raise the student's interest in study as interest is the premise for the student to invest time and effort. What is also important is that the tutor teach the student approaches and techniques to study, not only what's in the textbook. I also consider it prudent for tutors to have patience with students and to be…

A tutor needs to inspire the students in such a way that they know what their efforts will make them accomplish. A very few teachers are able to provide the contextual applications of what they teach the students. I believe it is paramount that a student know about WHY he is being taught something. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach them how to become independent. I would say that tutoring is only a temporary solution to their academic problems. If they are going to enter a university, get a real job or did not have enough money to pay for tutoring services, I would want them to learn on their own. A time would…

Ensuring that they grasp the knowledge taught is the most crucial thing for me. If they are able to teach it to others, I feel that I have done my job as a tutor. The tutor chosen for my daughter connected with her at the first lesson and has made the idea of being tutored a positive experience. Which I very grateful for. I gave you 1 star less as I had difficulty in trying to pay for one of the prepaid packages.

Inside BeecroftTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Hamish worked on classifying numbers, as well as converting decimals to fractions and identifying multiples and factors.

For Year 10, Ella focused on measurement questions involving absolute and percentage error, then moved to linear graphs—finding gradients and y-intercepts using examples from her textbook.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Arish tackled challenging complex number problems alongside some proof questions set by his school teacher.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student was observed "cramming all homework into one sitting," resulting in rushed responses and gaps when tackling advanced topics like polynomials and logarithms. This left little room for meaningful revision or feedback use before lessons.

In Year 10, a student repeatedly relied on the formula sheet for trigonometry instead of memorising key relationships—"he kept checking the sheet each time rather than recalling the rule."

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner skipped reading full word problems, leading to frequent misinterpretation: answers often missed key details from later sentences. This tendency undermined their confidence when faced with multi-step questions in class.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Beecroft recently noted a Year 11 student who previously hesitated with exam techniques now independently pinpoints her weaker areas and applies new strategies to tackle them.

In Year 8 maths, one student who often guessed when stuck has started pausing to ask clarifying questions instead, showing real initiative and less reliance on luck.

Meanwhile, a younger student who struggled with measuring lines using a ruler was initially apprehensive but, after some hands-on practice, now confidently measures and compares lengths without prompting. Last session, he completed all his line measurement tasks smoothly on his own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Pennant Hills Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Beecroft Public School.
