I believe two of the most important things a tutor can do for a student are help them gain some new insight and understanding into a subject, as well as try to inspire a genuine passion for the topic. As a tutor, I believe my one of my strengnths would definitely be my intense love of English. I'm also extremely time efficeint and organised, and…

Ensure that if they are facing significant challenges with a specific topic, that they maintain a growth mindset, and do not orient their attitude to one of self-defeat. My main strength is in my ability to communicate. I can utilize multiple approaches to explain a single a simple concept if needed, and use simple and concise…

Understand their possible struggle with learning the subject and actively working to help the student resolve it. A tutor needs to explain concepts patiently, clearly and in a way that suits the student learning pace. Patience - I almost always manage to stay calm and polite. Communication - I have strong written and verbal communication…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them in becoming more confident in their ability to do the work in the subjects they need help in. I think my strengths as a tutor are such things as: my patience, my ability to understand what it’s like to struggle in class, my ability to explain things multiple ways, my…

I believe a tutor's duty is not to necessarily improve the intellectual capability of their client, but rather, guide them in a way that allows them to harness their own learning potential through customised, carefully tailored programs specific to the individual. Whilst this may not necessarily be viable for every circumstance, it is the role of…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, is to explain concepts, theories and course content in an easy to understand, and easy to recall way. So that the student can gain an understanding of the content, and the knowledge will be retained for future studies. I think the main reasons that people came to me for help in school was…

Inside BelivahTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Zara explored mean, median, mode, and range as part of her introduction to statistics.

For Year 9, Emily practiced expanding algebraic expressions and worked through solving equations for x using diagrams to support understanding.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Josh focused on logarithmic equations—applying log rules and learning how to convert square roots into indices for his upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student did not complete a key maths assignment or the assigned homework, and needed reminders to follow up with their teacher about Measures of Spread.

"He kept looking at the previous examples we did together before attempting new questions," noted one tutor, highlighting a reliance on worked solutions rather than independent practice—especially in rounding and multiplication tasks.

In senior years, missed practice tests and unfinished revision led to difficulty under timed conditions; one student depended heavily on step-by-step guidance during worded problems in algebra. Without this support, confusion set in quickly, leaving gaps unaddressed as deadlines approached.

Recent Achievements

A Belivah tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who had struggled with algebra is now finishing equations efficiently and even asks for tougher questions to test her skills.

In another session, a Year 8 student who used to guess when unsure about statistics began pausing to ask clarifying questions instead, showing more independence in working through mean, median, and mode problems.

Meanwhile, two Year 3 students moved from needing constant help with time concepts to eagerly wanting to solve each clock question on their own before checking answers together—something they hesitated to do just weeks ago.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Venessa was great and we will be asking her to come back again in the new year.

Our daughter seems to respond well to Adam and even though it's still early days she is much more confident! Thanks

The tutoring sessions with Dominic are going very well. He has certainly helped Kailiana to gain confidence and skills in maths, while keeping a calm, friendly, and easy-going mood for the tutoring sessions. As any 8 year old does, Kailiana can get distracted from time to time, but Dominic has always taken this in stride, and been very creative in engaging with Kailiana in order to retain her attention. For example, there was one instance where she jumped up out of nowhere and decided to feed her goldfish in the middle of them trying to solve some questions about volume. Once she got back to the table Dominic asked her about her fish, and then changed the objects in the question they were solving to fish. He effectively got her back on track and engaged her attention in a warm and gentle way. Kailiana looks forward to her tutoring sessions, with is another testament to the good work Dominic has been doing with her.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Beenleigh Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rivermount College.
