Physics Tutor Buttaba, NSW
I think fostering curiosity and confidence are the most important things a physics tutor can do for a student. Technical knowledge is obviously extremely important, however, I think building solid study foundations is something a student will carry with them for the rest of their lives. As a current university student, I understand the frustration…

Physics Tutor Tingira Heights, NSW
Rather than just putting points down on a page, I think a physics tutor needs to find ways to relate with what the students are feeling making it easier to explain it to them I can talk to all kinds of people and find ways to relate with people making it easier to explain the work to…

Physics Tutor Charlestown, NSW
In my experience there are parts of courses that a student can not or would not understand on their own, however through my assistance to understand road blocks in course content and as a result help resolve and navigate them to me is the most important aspect of the job. I can explain course content in a manner students would find engaging and…

Physics Tutor Hillsborough, NSW
Based on my experience, I believe tutoring goes beyond the instructional role to supplement class-room teaching in three ways: Empathic: Face-to-face or personalized tutoring is intended to be remedial in nature. At times, the lack of understanding of some fundamental concepts from the prior years causes difficulty for the student. The tutor…

Inside BelmontTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Julian practised identifying faces, edges, and vertices of 3D shapes before tackling multi-digit addition and subtraction using question papers.

In Year 9, Tiffany completed a maths assessment to pinpoint key areas for support, while another Year 9 session focused on financial mathematics concepts such as gross and net pay calculations.

For Year 11, Lily reviewed calculus fundamentals alongside functions and polynomials in preparation for her Preliminary HSC exam.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student frequently left homework incomplete, especially tasks involving times tables and addition, which meant valuable lesson time was spent revisiting missed material rather than building new skills.

In Year 11 Chemistry, one student did not take up feedback on titration calculations—despite corrections offered, the same calculation errors reappeared in later practice.

A Year 5 learner hesitated to show written working for subtraction of mixed numbers; as a tutor noted, "she tried to keep it all in her head and lost track when regrouping."

During a Year 10 algebra session, missing formulas and confusion with indices rules made multi-step questions much harder to attempt confidently.

Recent Achievements

One Belmont tutor noticed a real shift in a Year 10 student's approach to financial maths—he now works through multi-step worded problems without skipping steps, after previously rushing and missing key details.

In another session, a Year 11 student who had struggled with probability trees is now independently determining probabilities for "and"/"or" scenarios, having mastered probability tables along the way.

For a younger learner, the tutor saw her use an expansion method she'd just been taught to solve times tables questions on her own, showing new independence after needing more guidance last term.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Thomas got 83% in each of his 2 Maths exams in the last week, (he went from 97 % to 50 % which made us think of tutoring) but for me its not the mark , it's the fact that he is happy and confident and really looking forward to his tutor time. It has done such a lot for his confidence Big thanks to Gabrielle!

We are all very happy with Rebecca. Myself, my husband and especially Grace, which is wonderful. Rebecca and Grace's school teacher have spoken via email and are working together. I think it is too early to see any real progress, as you said we would expect to see a difference in the next couple of months. But for now we are glad Grace is getting the help she needs while enjoying the company of Rebecca.

Mitch has been so wonderful with Nick and is doing an amazing job tutoring Nick, especially getting Nick focused on completing his maths homework. He has worked with Nick so well and has established a great working relationship with him. His patient demeanor is certainly a strong attribute and has made tutoring for Nick so much easier.  Nick has commented several times that 'he has learnt more with Mitch today than he has all week with his teacher'.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Belmont Library, ngarrabanga—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Francis Xavier's Primary School.
