The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to be attentive to a students needs. This is important as certain students will require extra help with their work, and some students who believe the work is too easy require harder work. My strengths as a tutor are my communication skills. I believe that I am able to community…

Inside BerowraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ella focused on multiplying and dividing fractions, as well as practising long division with remainders.

For Year 9, Sam worked through probability concepts using dot plots and frequency tables to analyse data distributions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Mia explored financial mathematics by calculating simple and compound interest, alongside tackling area and perimeter problems relevant to real-world scenarios.

Recent Challenges

Not showing working caused a Year 10 student to lose marks in recent tests—"he had full pages with no working," which made it difficult to spot and correct errors, especially in surds and algebra.

In Year 11, forgetting formulas for compound interest and depreciation meant extra time was spent searching rather than solving problems.

A Year 7 student regularly misread multi-step word problems; one tutor noted: "He stopped after finding how many went on the excursion, but missed the question about those who did NOT go."

For a primary student, messy number placement in long division made following calculations—and self-correction—much harder.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Berowra noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who, after struggling to apply the compound interest formula in past sessions, was able to use it accurately without prompting for both monthly and quarterly scenarios.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student who used to mix up like terms showed clear improvement by independently grouping and simplifying expressions correctly during algebra work.

At primary level, one student who previously hesitated with time zone questions is now confidently calculating time differences between countries using tables, even deciding whether to add or subtract based on location.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We're very happy with Kritika. Ella has taken to her easily and is really enjoying the work. I'm feeling very optimistic.

After the last session Mia said she was happy with Sam and didn't want to change to anyone else. Sam is very bright and Mia will never be an advanced Maths student but they seem to have worked out how to communicate and that just builds her confidence so she doesn't see a difficult question and get overwhelmed. Sam is also very punctual and communicates well with us as well. Even the dog likes him now.

Esme has connected with her tutor and is progressing well. We are pleased with the progress so far.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Berowra Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Pacific Berowra Christian School.
