One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student in my opinion is to believe in their abilities and potential so that the student can also believe in themselves. My strengths as a tutor is my patience and communicative skills. I understand that everyone learns at their own pace and some may take more explaining or different methods to…

I feel that communication and once again, patience, are both very crucial skills a tutor should possess. I know from my very own personal experiences being tutored that when my tutors were impatient, it often made me doubt my own abilities and reduced my motivation to learn and perform better. Communication is also definitely important because it…

Being friendly and open-minded to the student's needs is a must. If a student is not comfortable with the way a tutor acts then progress is very unlikely. A tutor must also be able to talk with the student, not just at them. Transforming questions and answers into discussions can help solidify the student's thinking process, and assist them to do…

My English teachers in my final years of school showed me that putting trust in students and adapting to their individual needs is one of the best ways to help them improve. It is crucial to help the students gain true confidence in their subjects through this way, as it can act as a source of motivation and a reason to keep persisting. I also…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is listen. Given that a lot of students seek tutors out because of inadequate classroom teachers, it's critical to understand the needs of the student and construct lessons and content in a way that is going to cater to their weaknesses and actually test their skills or fill gaps properly…

I believe that a tutor should foremost, teach their student to learn to love the subject. They should show their passion through their teaching so that their student will feel the same way about the subject. A tutor should be persistent, they should find different methods to teach their student if they do not grasp the topic well. They should also…

One of the most important things a tutor can do is to be able to recognise the student's weakness, If the tutor cannot do this, then it's no different than the teaching the student would receive at school. Being able to recognise the weakness and work towards creating an all-rounded knowledge of the topic should be quite important, as it will…

While a tutor can't promise perfect results or guarantee the fulfilment of specific goals, they can certainly assist students in achieving them. A tutor provides guidance and assistance…

I teach them the basics, with a few examples of application then get them to apply it to a question of their own so they can understand how to use the knowledge I have given them. I think empathy is the most important thing, as someone who is currently teaching kids and who has done tutoring since a very young age, I have firsthand experience in knowing that when a tutor is empathetic and kind towards the student, the student is more likely to be open towards growth and learning. Mindset is key in any learning environment…

We have experienced a really positive response from all we have dealt with at EzyMath Tutoring. The tutor provided is a good fit for my son. My son is always really encouraged and feeling good about himself after each session with his tutor. We are seeing results already.

Inside BerwickTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Jasmine focused on rearranging algebraic equations and interpreting linear graphs, including identifying x- and y-intercepts to plot points.

For Year 4, Sam practised the 3 times tables and worked on adding fractions to make a whole, using hands-on activities with fraction cards.

In Year 9, Liam tackled trigonometric ratios by solving for unknown sides and angles in right-angled triangles using sine, cosine, and tangent, alongside forming equations from worded problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student hesitated to complete assigned homework on linear equations, which slowed progress in mastering new problem types—"Jaz really needs to be completing the couple of homework questions each week as this will help consolidate what we do in lessons."

In Year 11, one student struggled with test timing; running out of time meant unfinished responses on decimals and place value.

A Year 7 learner's written work was sometimes messy during BODMAS tasks, making it harder to spot calculation errors quickly.

In upper primary, one student avoided tackling harder worded questions alone, often waiting for prompts before starting.

Recent Achievements

One Berwick tutor noticed a big change in Chelsea (Year 10), who now sets out her work much more logically than last year—this has meant fewer mistakes and she can rearrange equations with barely any prompting.

In Year 9, Kayla showed real independence when she quickly picked up how to convert between mixed numerals and improper fractions, placing both types accurately on a number line without help.

Meanwhile, Emma in Year 4 managed to smash through her time test almost entirely on her own this week, needing hardly any support from the tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bunjil Place Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Margaret's Berwick Grammar.
