It’s also important to teach effective study techniques so students can become independent learners beyond the sessions. A tutor is not just for increasing the grades of a student, a good tutor inspires their students to study and make sure they learn to enjoy the topics. A good tutor also understands the mentality, strengths and weaknesses of their students. The student should then be excited and enthusiastic to read about the next topic which is the best way to…

Most important thing a tutor can do for a student is that a tutor should make the knowledge so easily accessible and understandable to students that the next time they revise it it will be easy for them to understand it by just looking at it. My strengths about tutoring are that i am soft spoken and can do wonders with tutoring as i have taught…

Rather than teaching in a way that seems easy, and reading off a textbook, I think it is vital for a tutor to teach a student in a way that they can understand and learn. I also believe it is important to be engaging so that a student can and will have interest in learning rather than running away and avoiding it. Overall, it is important to be…

- Successful tutors form a close, personal bonds with their students. Tutors play a different role than teachers and parents, which puts them in an advantageous position to assist students. Personal relationships are fundamental to student success the more connected a student feels to his or her tutor, the more the tutor instils trust and…

A tutor should help the student understand the material, build their confidence, and give them strategies to solve problems on their own. Supporting the student in a way that makes learning manageable and less stressful is key. I am patient, clear when explaining things, and able to break down complex topics into simple steps. I also listen to the…

Robert was my son's tutor for both physics and maths methods spanning year 11 and 12. From the onset, Robert was attentive to Tyler's needs and observant of the gaps in his knowledge. He was always prepared with material to use while also encouraging Tyler to use examples of his own. Robert had many strengths which helped engage Tyler and develop his understanding of required concepts such as patience, rephrasing to suit Tyler's understanding, forethought to supply practice material ahead of each session and coaching skills to help Tyler develop strategies for ongoing learning. Robert is organised, punctual, open to feedback and changes in requirements, thorough and highly intelligent. Highly recomnend him.

Inside BeveridgeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Emily practised converting between kilometres, metres, centimetres, and millimetres, as well as tackling some basic maths skills using real-world examples.

In Year 11, James focused on methods topics like differentiation and applications of derivatives, working through gradients and the use of calculus in practical contexts.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Sarah worked through specialist mathematics concepts such as integration and parametric equations, alongside physics lessons covering momentum and projectile motion with step-by-step problem-solving.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Methods, a student showed understanding of complex numbers but tended to get stuck finishing answers—"he knows the principles and formulas, just needs to map them out together." This left gaps in solutions when questions became multi-step.

For a Year 8 student beginning Energy, initial confidence faded with unfamiliar content; practicing independently was avoided and textbook tasks were left incomplete.

In senior Physics, another student only attempted easier force vector problems and skipped textbook extension questions, limiting exposure to new scenarios.

Missed opportunities for targeted revision meant misconceptions lingered into later chapters.

Recent Achievements

One Beveridge tutoring session saw a Year 8 student who previously hesitated with new maths concepts start asking clarifying questions on her own and comfortably work through examples after some initial uncertainty.

A Year 11 student, who often relied on hints, managed to complete challenging momentum problems independently in preparation for an upcoming test, showing clear growth in problem-solving initiative.

Meanwhile, a Year 12 student who used to avoid exam-style integration questions successfully tackled implicit differentiation problems from the actual exam paper and got them correct without prompting.
