The most important thing a tutor can do for their students, besides helping them improve in their areas of need, is to support them and encourage them to perform to their very best and increase their confidence in their abilities in order to do well in exams. I think adapting to students learning style is vital to allow for the most growth in their education. Tutors are exceptionally valuable as the one on one or small class dynamics allow for the specific needs of a student to be catered for, giving their learning attention in a way that can be difficult to access within the schooling system alone.…

A tutor or at least a teacher is someone who can give students a helping hand, perhaps a friend is too informal but someone they can relate to. I think being able to understand your student and what makes them improve or how they can improve is also essential as a tutor and a teacher. It is useless to spoon feed facts and knowledge to a student if…

I think some of the key things a tutor can do for a student include the tutor trying the absolute best to ensure the student understands the subject or any difficulties the student is having with the subject. A tutor must never give up but continuously strive to ensure that there student is confident in their ability to succeed in a subject. I…

I think that students generally need a lot of support, and that a tutor should be able to provide an avenue through which a student is able to feel comfortable, supported and encouraged. I think that I’m good at connecting with students and building a relationship. I am a very enthusiastic person and I believe that lends itself to creating an…

I believe that is to impart the knowledge he/she has to the student about a certain subject, in such way and manner that is very considerate to the mental and emotional well-being and capacity of the student. It is important that the tutor knows his/her student’s capabilities, so the tutor will have a basis on how he/she will tackle the…

From my perspective, a tutor is also a teacher as we teach and deliver knowledge to students. Each student sits at a different level, which requires different tutoring method and approaches. Understanding is key in tutoring as adequate assistance would help a student to achieve their best potentials. Secondly, we as tutoring should make students…

It is important tutors: - When possible, teach the material in a way that allows students to 'see the forest through the trees' in order for them to more effectively engage in the important details. - Teach in a way that allows for active, intuitive learning, rather than passive rote memorization. - Make students feel like they are part of a…

The most important thing is to make sure that the student has completely understood the concept. It is useless to move forward if they don't understand the basics. The most important thing is to make sure that the student doesn't feel overwhelmed with their workload, and instead has fun (or at least doesn't detest the time spent) while studying. In this regard, the tutor has to make the content interesting and tailor it to each individual if it's one-on-one. I'm very patient in explaining concepts. I also…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen and create a safe space for the student. When tutors don't listen it'll be a waste of time for both parties. Inside Beverley ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Max focused on spelling patterns with digraphs like "ai" and "ay," practiced tricky word lists, and used syllable breakdown to improve confidence.

In Year 8, Emma worked through probability concepts including Venn diagrams and two-step experiments, then completed a chapter review using textbook questions.

For Year 10, Sam revised financial mathematics topics such as tax and superannuation calculations, along with an introduction to compound interest and wage calculations.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 mathematics, messy and unclear working—especially in algebra and trigonometry—meant correct answers sometimes lost marks, as one tutor observed: "her tree diagrams became too difficult to read and easy to make mistakes."

A Year 8 student often forgot to write reasons when proving angles, which made it hard to follow her logic in geometry proofs.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner misplaced spelling homework after writing it on scraps instead of the provided booklet; this led to incomplete tasks and less improvement with weekly word lists.

Each moment of confusion or lost work created extra hurdles during revision.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Beverley Park noticed one Year 10 student who used to struggle with simplifying surds last year now tackling these problems confidently and even applying them to more complex questions.

In a recent high school session, another student managed to pick out relevant details from lengthy, tricky assignment questions—a big change from her earlier tendency to get lost in extra information.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner who once hesitated with spelling challenges recently spelled all words correctly on his test list and finished two NAPLAN reading tasks with improved scores of 4/7 and 5/7.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We love Jennifer and she is the perfect match for Kittu. Already she has noticeably improved her confidence.

Freya and Lidia get on really well, Lidia is gentle, firm and positive all at the same time which works well for Freya. Freya's confidence is growing already and she did better in her last weekly maths test than she usually does which was a boost for her confidence.

Ranul has been fantastic. Ava seems to have really taken a liking to him which helps!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sans Souci Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Carlton South Public School.
