You can inspire a student and make him independent. The goal of a teacher (ironically) is to make himself redundant. Being able to develop self-learning skills and teaching oneself by asking right questions is the key process of learning. Eventually, you can master the art of learning itself and you don't need a teacher. I can be very friendly and…

In my opinion, one of the key aspects for a maths tutor is to grasp how much a student knows about a specific topic and at what pace they catch up. By assessing this, the tutor can then tailor classes to suit the student's needs and optimize the learning process. As a tutor, my strengths lie in a genuine enjoyment of teaching and a knack for…

Every student learns at their own pace, so I make it a priority to explain concepts as many times as needed in different ways until they feel confident. Creating a supportive and encouraging environment helps students…

As a maths tutor, I believe the most important things a teacher could do for their students is making them feel encouraged and secured. Encouraging students and providing them with…

The most important things a maths tutor can do for a student is build confidence and spark an interest for learning. I would do this by encouraging a growth mindset and applying school concepts to the real world to show students that school learning does relate to the real world and doesn't just remain in the books. This is something I personally…

To be attentive and to address the students personal needs for growth. The tutor should set an ideal example in terms of behaviour motivation and actions- one which a student should be able to look up to but also resonate with. This allows him to engage with the student at a personal level and provide better more relatable academic support, but…

Inside BlacktownTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Josh worked on converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages as well as calculating GST and understanding price changes.

In Year 9, Chloe revised Pythagoras' theorem alongside practice with coordinate geometry—specifically finding midpoints and distances between points using diagrams.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Abby tackled genetic technologies for an assessment task, breaking down the implications of gene therapy for Spinal Muscular Atrophy and clarifying the relationship between genotypes and phenotypes.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student arrived without a textbook or reference materials, making it difficult to engage fully with the lesson content.

In Year 9, one student struggled to keep up with classwork and admitted to not completing assignments on time—"he has not been keeping up with class work which is something we need to work on."

For a Year 11 Biology session, messy note-taking and trouble organizing research made revision harder; she often forgot definitions and key terms during review.

In senior years, difficulties in breaking down exam questions led to hesitation when answering under timed conditions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Blacktown recently noticed some great progress with students across different year levels.

In Year 4 maths, Chloe had struggled to remember her times tables, but after steady practice, she could recall the 7 and 8 times tables from memory and applied them to fraction problems with much more ease than before.

At the high school level, Josh moved from needing step-by-step help to solving most trigonometry questions independently; last session he even corrected his own mistakes without prompting.

Meanwhile, Abby began structuring her biology assessment responses more clearly after learning to highlight key words for each dot point.

Daniel as a tutor is a very good fit (perfect) for Sid! We are quite happy with the way things are progressing so far & happy to continue.

Just wanted to let you know that my daughter just finished her first tutoring session with Derek and he was fantastic! Thank you so much for connecting us with him, things are looking up already.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lalor Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Patrician Brothers' College Blacktown.
