In my opinion, a tutor must be able to empathize with the student and create a safe space for them. Its important to be constructive and patient especially with the ones that take time to grasp topics. One must keep instructions clear and always strive to empower the child by focusing on their strengths. Engage them instead of lecturing…

Students may have gaps in their understanding due to missed classes, inadequate explanations, or other reasons. A tutor can identify these gaps and help bridge them by revisiting…

According to me the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to instil confidence and positive mindset in a student which can empower the student to take on challenges. Developing a love for learning also goes a long way, as a tutor teaches a subject which he likes he can encourage curiosity and passion for the subject in his students…

I believe that a tutor should be able to build relationships with a student where the students are provided with an environment where they are heard and observed. I think this allows tutors to strategize methods in helping students progress, learn and succeed. This must be done with patience, constant assessment of student's progress, and…

Always know what students need and what's their priority. This means a tutor need to show respect to students. The primary contributor to a student's poor academic performance isn't the lack of knowledge but the fear of failure. The most important things I can do for a student, is to put myself in their shoes when teaching. Often some students take longer to understand, comprehend or apply the knowledge taught. It' so important to go at their pace, whilst challenging them as well, because there's nothing we can't achieve if we set our minds to it. It' important to simply…

Of course being able to teach and make the student understand the lesson. The most important thing is to develop the students confidence and give them the ability to take on problems on their own later down the track. My daughter has constantly struggled with maths and has had 2 Ezymaths tutors. Both have been fantastic in helping to teach her the fundamentals and to build her self confidence in maths, which given how terrible I was with maths was impossible to do myself. I think I just made things worse. I would certainly recommend Ezymath tutors to anyone. Well worth the investment. Regards Trent

Inside Blair AtholTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student James revised for an upcoming **differential calculus test** by drawing sign diagrams for derivatives and finding equations of tangents to curves at given points.

A Year 12 student worked through the **chain rule and product rule in differentiation**, tackling a variety of exam-style questions to solidify understanding.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Alex practised solving linear equations and graphing straight lines, focusing on interpreting **slope and y-intercept** from both algebraic forms and graphs.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student struggled with test timing—"if he masters this at the start of year 12, he will be ahead," noted a tutor after observing rushed solutions in calculus.

In Year 10, one student's working was crowded and hard to track; errors became harder to spot without clearer spacing between steps.

A Year 8 learner found it difficult to recall earlier algebra lessons, needing frequent review of summary sheets.

Another senior needed help "remembering trigonometric identities" but hesitated to label diagrams, which slowed progress on non-calculator tasks and left them searching for connections mid-question.

Recent Achievements

One Blair Athol tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously hesitated to show working now lays out each step clearly, which helps him spot and fix mistakes himself.

A Year 8 learner, after struggling with fractions, can now confidently find lowest common multiples and perform operations with different denominators without pausing for help.

Meanwhile, a primary student who used to guess when asked about prime numbers is now using continuous division accurately to identify primes and explain her reasoning out loud. Last session, she distinguished between three tricky numbers in a row using this method.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Enfield Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Paul Lutheran School.
